Interview with Louise Bagshawe on Passion

Are you excited about coming to Australia for Passion?

Louise Bagshawe: Very much so! I've never been down under and this is an amazing opportunity for me. I've been two days in Sydney, and already I'm blown away - the skyscrapers, the great food, sunshine, amazing people. I'm definitely coming back on holiday.

You write about a very different world to the one you live in, why is this?

Louise Bagshawe: Look, I'm a working mum with three kids five and under, no nannies, and a Tory politician the rest of the time. I need a bit of escapism the same as anybody else. When it's the Wiggles and nappies all day long, you look for some glamour! (Although it has to be said I am a huge fan of the Wiggles).

Do you enjoy the world of writing racy chick literature?

Louise Bagshawe: The world of writing it is mostly me, at the computer, bleary eyed with a cup of tea, still in my dressing gown! But yes, I enjoy stretching my imagination and experiencing the adventure I'm writing for the characters. I loved a good daydream when I was a kid, now I'm making money at it.

Do people that know you as a conservative politician, school governor and charity worker see you as a chick lit writer?

Louise Bagshawe: No, the Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury asked if I was a banker the other day at a political event! Do I come across as a banker? (Don't answer that!). It's a different background for a budding politician, perhaps, but it appeals to women and politics needs more of that.

How does Passion differ from your books Glitz and Glamour?

Louise Bagshawe: It's James Bond for girls - there's action, adventure, a high octane chase, assassins - this is a romantic thriller. The hero and heroine are old flames, and as they fight for their lives, they have to fight their feelings too.

Why is Passion the best Mother's Day present this year?

Louise Bagshawe: Give Mum something different - a wild romance that can stir the blood. When she's done she can hand the book to Dad and hopefully he'll enjoy it too!
