Devotion

Devotion

Who is Veronica? What is she so afraid of? Following the birth of her second child the successful and beautiful Veronica inexplicably stops speaking and refuses to see her baby. With her psychiatrist suggesting writing as therapy she begins to pour her ghosts and memories into a laptop believing that only she is reading them...

In this compelling novel from a fresh voice of Australian fiction, Ffion Murphy bravely tackles some of the silent issues faced by many women and families.

Devotion explores the complex and chilling effects on families of children with serious disabilities and of postnatal depression, as well as the potency of female relationships - between mothers and daughters, sisters and friends.

Ffion Murphy has researched the areas of memory, trauma, psychoanalysis, writing therapy and postnatal depression.

Review:
We are trained as children to be mothers, role play and nurtured, but still when the time comes, it's not as rose coloured or easy as we might of thought. There highs and lows that make it interesting, but then there are the serious issues. Ffion Murphy takes us down the road less travelled and explores a new side of being a woman, mother, daughter, sister & friend.
