Wedding Day Pet-tachment

Wedding Day Pet-tachment

Wedding Day Pet-tachment

Key findings from new study released:
More than half (50.5 per cent) of pet owners admit to factoring their pet into their wedding day plans
Almost one quarter (21.7 per cent) of pets are even taking on roles including ring bearer, maid of honour and best man
Almost one fifth (17.1 per cent) of pets are by the bride or grooms side throughout the entire wedding ceremony
It seems Pet-tachment hasn't completely taken over - only 5 per cent of Australians take their pet with them on their honeymoon, with 42.5% preferring to book a pet-sitter
Luckily, over 42 per cent of pet owners feel finding a pet-sitter for their honeymoon is easy as over half (54.2 per cent) would go as far as cancelling or postponing their honeymoon if they couldn't find the right pet care solution
Brides and grooms-to-be may need to watch out – it seems Aussies are fighting for the affection of their loved ones against their pets with over two thirds (64.5 per cent) saying they love their pets and spouse equally!

Research being released tomorrow by Pawshake, the largest and most trusted community of pet-sitters and pet-lovers in Australia, has revealed that Aussies are having a case of wedding day 'Pet-tachment.'

Amongst the friends, family, and distant relatives making it onto carefully curated wedding guest lists, it seems there is another important family member making the cut; research has shown that more than half (50.5 per cent) of bride and grooms-to-be are factoring their pets into their wedding day plans.

Australia is living up to its reputation as a nation of pet-lovers with almost a quarter (21.7 per cent) going as far as to give their pet the coveted role of ring bearer, maid of honour or best man and a further one fifth (17.1 per cent) claiming their pet was by their side for the entire day.

So it seems it's no longer just the bride and groom who need to be picture-perfect, with so many pets making it along to the special day, their outfits have become just as important. Almost a third (29 per cent) of pet-owners are dressing their furry friends up for the occasion, with a further 43 per cent including them in their professional wedding photos.

Although table seating plans can be a headache and pet owners have struggled for years to keep their pets down off the dinner table, it seems we're prepared to go the extra mile and make a few little allowances with over 12 per cent saying their furry friend has a special place reserved at the bridal or guest tables.

Despite a clear case of Pet-tachment, it seems we'll draw the line when it comes to the honeymoon. Only 5 per cent will go as far as to take their pet along on the trip, with the majority (42.5 per cent) preferring to book a pet-sitter. It's lucky over 42 per cent of pet owners feel finding a pet-sitter for their honeymoon period is easy as over half (54.2 per cent) would go as far as cancelling or postponing their holiday if they couldn't find a suitable pet care solution.

Commenting on the research, Pawshake co-founder Tanguy Peers, said: "People love their pets dearly and view them as family members, which is evident when Australians are inviting them to their weddings; some even appointing them important roles.

"Interestingly, although couples want their pets to be part of their big day, it seems pet-owners are not yet prepared to give up their alone time to take their pets along on their honeymoon. For extended periods away like these, pet-sitting services such as Pawshake are a convenient way to connect with trusted and local pet lovers who can help look after our furry friends, ensuring a worry and stress-free break."

Despite the fact that most couples are guaranteed a pet-free honeymoon, newlyweds shouldn't get too comfortable upon their return. Research has also revealed that Aussies are fighting for the affection of their loved ones against their pets, with over two thirds (64.5 per cent) saying they love their pets and spouse equally!
