Pink Scrabble supporting Breast Cancer

Pink Scrabble supporting Breast Cancer

A New Look and A Worthy Partnership

Scrabble, everyone's favourite board game, will be changing colour for the first time in its history - all for a good cause. The board game first launched in 1948 is launching a special pink edition complete with letter tiles, racks, boards and boxes all in different shades of pink in support of The National Breast Cancer Foundation (Australia) and The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation.

A much loved favourite the traditional game has gone pink in the hope of raising awareness of breast cancer as well as gaining much needed funds for on-going research.

The new look Pink Scrabble will be launched in September in a move that Julie Kearns, Marketing Director, Mattel Australia and New Zealand, believes was a natural progression for the company and the product.

'It's been reported to us that many patients undergoing Chemotherapy play Scrabble as part of their recovery,' Julie Kearns admitted. 'What better way to show our support for them and their fight than by getting involved and helping a good cause to get their message out there?'

In Australia alone, more than 13,000 new cases of breast cancer are expected this year and the work done by the National Breast Cancer Foundation has already seen a decline in mortality. It is believed that this decline can be attributed in part to the successful early detection programs and funding of high-quality research resulting in better treatments.

Despite the substantial loss of life, prospects for survival are better than ever. More that 96 per cent of women will survive at least one year after diagnosis and almost 87 per cent will survive five years or more - a 15 per cent increase since the 1980s.

The September launch of Pink Scrabble also hopes to create increased awareness of Breast Cancer Awareness Month that is run in October in both Australia and New Zealand.

Pink Scrabble will be available from all good game retailers with a RRP of $49.95AUD and $49.95NZD.
