The Flying Saucer Club welcomes to its stage for the first time Melbourne's most versatile and adventurous young artists Georgina Darvidis and award-winning pianist Nathan Liow. Darvidis and Liow lead a revolving line-up of exceptional jazz talent to bring you a show that explores the life and songs of musical legend Nina Simone.
Reimagining Nina Simone combines songs and storytelling, celebrating the talent and legacy of the astounding Jazz singer by taking the audience on a tour through her iconic songs such as Blackbird, My Baby Just Cares For Me, Mississippi Goddamn and more punctuated with insights and anecdotes that underpin the life and sound of this seminal artists.
Georgina Darvidis is an extremely talented musician, Georgie has made a name for herself as a jazz vocalist, mostly performing with swinging vocal trio The Furbelows, but also with a whole series of other bands. She also writes music of her own, outside the jazz spectrum, which she describes as experimental electronic-acoustic audio collage. Darvidis' vocal artistry is superbly complimented by the innovative pianistic architecture of Nathan Liow, who through his sensitive and imaginative playing leads the band through clever arrangements that pay both twist and tribute to iconic songs we all know and love. Darvidis and Liow reimagine the work of Nina Simone with creativity, personality and musical sensitivity.
