"A brilliant and original concept, The Invention of Lying is witty, seriously funny and utterly charming." - Urban Cinefile.
Ricky Gervais makes his directorial debut and stars in a new comedy flick, The Invention of Lying. Set in an alternate reality, where even the concept of a lie does not exist, one man is about to lose everything. That is until he tells the worlds first ever lie.
Playing a down-on-his-luck screenwriter named Mark Bellison, the film transports viewers to a world where every word is taken to be the absolute truth. When Mark realises this fact and suddenly understands he has the ability to tell a non-truth, he finds out quickly that dishonesty has its rewards.
Armed with this newly acquired skill, Mark begins to understand lies have a way of spreading themselves about and he begins to realise that events are getting a little out of his control. This becomes apparent when some of his tallest tales are being taken as gospel. With the entire world now hanging on his every word there is only one thing Mark has not been able to lie his way into, and that is the heart of the woman he loves.
Starring alongside Ricky Gervais in this laugh-out-loud comedy is an A-list including Jennifer Garner, Tina Fey, Jonah Hill and Rob Lowe.
