With impending release of the highly anticipated period epic -The Great Gatsby' in Australia on May 30 2013, attention will not only be on the cinematographic spectacular from Baz Luhrmann, a strong focus will also be on the distinct Roaring 20's era depicted in the film from fashion, hair, make up and style.
The defining look of the era was no doubt the short sleek 'flapper" style hair seen in the film, which was best seen on golden girl Carey Mulligan who plays Daisy Buchanan in the film.
If you're not prepared to go short, International expert stylist Barney Martin gives his tips on how to modernise the look, even with longer cuts, with classic 20's inspired finger waves. The look has been seen on Jessica Alba, Katy Perry and Mirranda Kerr.
Get the look:
1. Apply a generous amount of mousse and spread evenly throughout your hair
2. Blow-dry straight and smooth with a large barrelled brush, making sure your hairdryer is blowing down your hair shaft to keep the cuticle laying flat " this encourages a shiny finish. Then make a deep side part keeping the front section separate.
3. Pull the rest of your hair behind your ears, secure any stray lengths with bobby pin.
4. Create loose waves at the front with a large barrelled tong or straightener. Then spray liberally with a flexible hairspray " this will hold your style without giving you that crunchy feeling.
