Teenagers Alcohol and Drugs

Teenagers Alcohol and Drugs

Paul Dillon has over 25 years experience working in drug education. He speaks daily to parent groups and teenagers at schools and he is regularly called on by the media to provide updates and advice when issues related to drugs and alcohol flare up in the community. Paul Dillon's positive approach and passion for working with young people is about ensuring they have access to good quality information and best practice drug education.

With Government TV ads telling parents they should be talking to their kids about binge drink and drugs, parents are asking WHAT do you take to them ABOUT? Using anecdotal scenarios collected from numerous talks with teenagers and parents, Paul Dillon shares what it is kids really want and need to know about alcohol and drugs. Simply asking 'Are you taking drugs?" is not going to get parents anywhere.

This book will:
Provide insight into the social environment around teen, helping to bridge the generation gap.
Encourage parents to be more open minded so that their kids have access to the best possible information for decision-making.
Educate parents on how to offer usable strategies to their children for dealing with peer pressure (including how to get 'out' of a situation they don't want to be in).
Provide tips to parents on how to plan parties with their child to show responsibility.
Inform parents of the importance to educate their kids about how to react in an emergency or look after a friend in trouble (get those heads out of the sand!)
Help parents of younger children, who are at an age where a trusting relationship can be established more easily.

Paul Dillontrained as a primary school teacher in Western Australia and has since taught across all age groups, from pre-primary to high school students. In the early 1990's he moved into the alcohol and other drug field and is best known for his media work in this area (including his program 'Drugs with Paul Dillon' which ran for 7 years on Triple J). Through his own business, Drug and Alcohol Research and Training Australia (DARTA), he has been contracted by many organisations across Australia to give regular updates on current drug trends within the community. he is one of the few speakers in this area who is also privileged enough to speak to parents and the wider community and his positive message about our young people continues to ensure that he is in great demand across Australia.
