Aussie Farmers Direct sees a 69 per cent Growth of Female Franchisees

Over the past twelve months, Aussie Farmers Direct, an independently-owned Australian home delivery business which works with franchisees to deliver 100% Australian food direct from farmers to urban household doorsteps, has seen a 69% increase in female franchisee business owners since April 2010.

This growth is being led by -mumpreneurs', who are able to schedule the home delivery health food business around the school run and other family commitments. The hot spots for budding mumpreneurs include Sydney's outer west, Melbourne's inner northern suburbs, north Perth and the suburbs east of Brisbane.

Aussie Farmers Direct currently operates with 165 milko franchisees delivering locally sourced meat, produce and other 100% Australian products to more than 100,000 homes across six states of Australia.

Braeden Lord, CEO comments: 'Our milkman franchisee model is complimentary to working mums who need to factor in caring for their children and running a busy household."

Young mum Fiona Fell from Elwood in Melbourne's south east signed up as a franchisee in May 2008. Each week, Fiona delivers fruit and veg, meat, dairy and other local foods from Richmond through to Elwood. Fiona said -When I first looked around at different franchise models, I couldn't find any with a reasonable workload where I could work around family commitments.

My milk run is a great business that I can grow independently, while still being supported by the Aussie Farmers Direct team' she said. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, women make up 33% of small business owners and that number is growing.

Oliver Milman, founder of Start Up Smart explains --there are more highly-skilled, business-savvy women in the position to start-up a company than ever before.

-'Women are generally having children later and by the time they reach their early 30's they have the well-honed skills, contacts and experience required to start a franchise'' he said.

In February 2011 Aussie Farmers Direct was named #1 in BRW Fast Franchises list for the second consecutive year.
