: A re-imagining of the horror icon Freddy Krueger, a serial-killer who wields a glove with four blades embedded in the fingers and kills people in their dreams, resulting in their real death in reality. Verdict
A Nightmare on Elm Street is a remake of the 1984 horribly scary classic, of the same name, directed by Wes Craven. The character of Freddy Krueger (Jackie Earle Haley) is still a daunting horror icon whose story will continue to scare audiences now and into the future by taking our uncontrollable fears and ensuring that we will never sleep soundly, again.
The 2010 version, directed by Samuel Bayer, is very similar to the 1984 movie; telling the story from Nancy's point of view. Nancy (Rooney Mara) discovers her friends are having the same daunting nightmares as her, which feature a dreadfully burnt man called Freddy Krueger. Nancy realises that Freddy is real when one of her friends dies a horrid death at the beginning of the film… If Freddy kills you in your sleep, you die in real life.
The imaginative horror film is visually appealing and doesn't spoil the original film. The remake will provide fans of the original with new scares, even though the film isn't as frightening as the classic. The horrendous storyline continues to scare new audiences, today and in the future.
"Whatever you do, don't fall asleep." - Nancy. Rating
