Meet your new favourite family unit slash musical project J4. Born out of boredom and convenience during the Melbourne lockdowns, J4 are three longterm housemates who are refreshingly straightforward and unapologetically themselves. Their sun-soaked pop hooks and tongue in cheek attitude make it a party for everyone.
Debut single "Try To Be Cool" blends cheerful sass with self deprecation, in a pool of synth and reverb heavy vocals.
Citing Peep Show and The Mighty Boosh as two of their biggest inspirations, J4 set up in their living room each Friday and jam until the wee hours of the next morning. Talking through their process, they happily admit, "we use first takes of everything, so we don't over complicate lyrics or the way we're playing. We're not trying to be perfect; we're just trying to get it out."
An anthem for the underdogs, "Try to be Cool" keeps it real with its self effacing flare. It's a first taste of both their fun loving attitude and what's to come from their forthcoming EP, due for release later this year.
Strap yourselves in for the rollercoaster ride that is J4.
