'GOOD FOR ME' was born from a deeply personal place for James, inspired by the quiet, cherished moments shared with his wife, Talia Rose. "It's about the feeling of coming home to her and just doing the simple things"sitting and watching a movie, having a cup of tea," he shares. "It's those moments I appreciate more than ever, and I wanted to capture that joy in a song."
'GOOD FOR ME' tells the relatable story of leaving a wilder past behind for a life rich with love and simple pleasures. The track's authenticity shines through in its lyrics, particularly in lines that resonate with James personally: "She got me putting more pillows on the bed sheets and watching crime shows on the TV. I think that's something a lot of men could relate to," says James. "It's something my younger, single self wouldn't have cared for, but I do it because she cares about it, and that's what love is. It's about wanting to make the person you love happy."
Ultimately, James hopes the song encourages listeners to look at their own lives with gratitude, "I want people to listen to this and reflect on the person they love, to appreciate the simple things between them that makes what they have together truly special."
'GOOD FOR ME' is the latest single from James Johnston, following the release of his earlier 2025 tracks 'HELL BOY' in January and 'BACK IN THE DAY' in May. Earlier this year, James won multiple fan-voted Countrytown Awards, including Entertainer of the Year and Male Artist of the Year. To close the awards ceremony, he performed a medley of his hits, including 'HELL BOY'. In addition to his remarkable success in Australia, James has taken country music global - he recently returned from South Africa, where he won Song of the Year for his collaboration with local artist Appel on their single 'COUNTRY IS FOR ME'.
In the coming months, James is set to take his music to the stage at Gympie Music Muster in August, Night At The Parkland in September, Night At The Barracks and Savannah In The Round in October. Further details are available at jamesjohnston.com
