Swedish recording artist, Tove Stryke, has released a dreamy and minimalistic pop cover of Lorde's Liability, a track from her new 2017 album Melodrama Stream the liability (demo) HERE!
The Lorde cover comes perfectly timed as a preview for Styrke's spring 2018 U.S. tour with Lorde slated to kick off March 1. See the full tour date listing and ticket information HERE!
Of the track, Styrke describes, "It's no secret that I'm a huge fan of Lorde and everything she creates. And the fact that I'll get to tour with her next year still blows my freaking mind every time I think about it. I got this idea to make a little something while preparing for the tour and being in the studio finishing my upcoming singles and album. Yay for multitasking! So I made this cover of one of my favourite songs, Liability."
Recently, Styrke released her new single Mistakes, which was co-written and produced by fellow Swede Elof Loelv (Rihanna, Zara Larsson, Icona Pop.) The track has received widespread acclaim sparking Idolator to call the release "minimal electro-pop with maximum impact". Additionally, TIME remarked that Styrke is "carving out her own sweet spot in contemporary pop". This smooth electro-pop release has almost reached 8 million Spotify streams, with the track also claiming #1 spot on Hype Machine, an incredible feat for Swedish singer. Shawn Mendes has also shown his support for the song, naming Mistakes as one of his favourite tracks of 2017 in an interview with NME, revealing that he is "obsessed".
Styrke's Say My Name single that was released earlier this year, has received amazing praise within the industry. Rolling Stone included the track at #11 on their -Top Songs of 2017' list, whilst Noisey called it "the best song ever made by a person". A credit to Stryke's infectious musicality, Say My Name has also received the nod of approval from the likes of Sam Smith and Lena Dunham! Say My Name has currently achieved over 12 million Spotify streams, with 2.5 million of streams deriving from Australia, helping it reach to #12 on Spotify's Global Viral 50 chart! The Lorde-approved track has garnered significant buzz, as the international superstar included the track on her Homemade Dynamite Spotify playlist.
A platinum selling and Grammy nominated artist in her native Sweden, Tove Styrke has been on a fast rise since the release of KIDDO, bolstered by the striking lead single, Borderline, as well as strong follow ups Ego and Number One. The album paved the way for a full North American headline tour, SXSW appearances, and a performance on Late Night with Seth Meyers. As Pigeons and Planes exclaimed, "Tove carries herself in a way that makes it impossible not to smile throughout the show. She's fun, a little weird (in a good way"think MØ, Grimes, Björk), and totally captivating."
