Lucy Sugerman is getting her cowboy boots on with the release of her single 'Friends To Lovers', which marks the beginning of a pivot into country styling and a new elevated Suger-era. 'Friends To Lovers' is a catchy and uptempo track, making light of 'situationships' and people you really could've just stayed friends with instead of crossing a line.
Layered in 12 string guitar, slide and mandolin, the track is co-written with Ethan Reginato (Charli Lucas, Holly Hebe). The lyrics contrast friendship and romance, and a note that sometimes the line isn't so far apart.
On the release Lucy says, "'Friends to Lovers' feels like the beginning of a really exciting new chapter for me. It's playful, upbeat and makes light of those situationships where, in hindsight, you probably should've just stayed friends instead of crossing that line".
Having grown up busking at country and folk festivals as a kid, and after a reinvigorating trip to Nashville, Lucy Sugerman is coming bac kto her whimsy - looking forward and outwards, and starting to take life with a bit more pep in her step (and way more line dancing).
An official music video will drop with the release on Friday - directed by Freyja Benjamin, with wardrove by Molly Millington. Bringing together names from the Australian indie music scene, the video was shot at Heaps Normal Health Club.
