The Marion Cranes Interview

The Marion Cranes Interview

Interview with The Marion Cranes

Question: How would you describe your music?

The Marion Cranes: BIG POP HITS. Pop, Pop, Pop. Sassy, fast-talking, emotional and raunchy. We sing, we rap in New Zealand accents and it's all a fusion of our favourite 90's pop sounds with modern methodology.

Question: What motivated the single?

The Marion Cranes: Wondering is a true story. It's a song about meeting guys and then being ghosted after dating for a few weeks.

Question: What message do you hope to spread with Wondering?

The Marion Cranes: We're all guilty of doing that so it's kind of hypocritical singing about it but now we use it as a reminder to treat gays better, use honesty, and like, tell the guy you're not interested instead of leading him on; I'm a Scorpio so I get very emotional when my heart hurts. I wonder if Taylor Swift is a Scorpio?

Question: Which is your favourite song to perform live and why?

The Marion Cranes: We have one unreleased track called 'Daddy' which we've started putting into our live set. My phone number is sung in the chorus. That's always super fun to then read all the text messages and voicemails after a show.

Question: If you could have anyone, in the world, attend a show, who would it be?

The Marion Cranes: Ryan Seacrest because we would make great subjects for a reality show.

Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?

The Marion Cranes: They really are different, so it's hard to compare the two. To me, they feel like two parts of one creative process. Recording definitely takes a lot longer but I love the collaborative feeling you get when you are recording and that magic happens when you know you're making something awesome. Then you get to listen to it over and over again and know that you made it. But there is nothing like getting on stage at a big festival. It's a pretty special buzz.

Question: What motivates you most when writing music?

The Marion Cranes: I think a lot of what we are listening to at the time. As lovers of music, we might be listening to a track with a really distinctive baseline and then try and apply that to a song we are doing.

Question: Which music/artists are you currently listening to?

The Marion Cranes: Kira Puru, Chanel Tres and Ariana because it's impossible not to.

Question: What or who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?

The Marion Cranes: We both are generally quite musical people, we had other bands going on and we lived together and got bored of Netflix so we just started jamming together. Blind confidence and not caring what anyone else thinks has got us this far.

Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?

The Marion Cranes: We're currently working on a single with Princess Superstar, which is pretty cool for us.

Question: What's a typical day like?

The Marion Cranes: Well, we both work day jobs so it can be hard to define a typical day for us. We spend a lot of weeknights recording at a Studio in Collingwood. Then in summer we try and play a good handful of festivals.
