Make My Shave Dermaplaner + Facial Oil Kit
RRP: $94.95
Review:
I'm noticed that my skin has become drier and duller over the last few years, with fine facial hair seeming much more noticeable when I put on foundation. I'd been curious about dermaplaning but was nervous about trying it at home because I'd heard all the myths about hair growing back thicker.
The Make My Shave Dermaplaner + Facial Oil Kit completely changed my mind. The facial oil gives the blade a really smooth glide, so it never felt harsh or scratchy on my skin. What surprised me was how much dead skin and peach fuzz it removed without any irritation.
Afterwards my skin looked brighter and felt incredibly soft. My moisturiser seemed to absorb much better, and my foundation sat so much more evenly, instead of clinging to dry patches around my cheeks and chin. The results looked fresh and natural rather than overdone.
I also love that the handle is made from metal instead of plastic. It feels sturdy and well-made, which gives more confidence when using it.
Most importantly, I can confirm the hair definitely doesn't grow back thicker or darker. It simply grows back exactly as it was before. This has become one of those little self-care rituals I do every few weeks when my skin is looking tired, and it always gives me a confidence boost. Give a try for yourself.
Australia's First National Perimenopause & Menopause Campaign Shines a Light on Women's Health " But One Symptom Still Flies Under the Radar
Gold Coast skincare founder says the conversation the government started still has a gap. In May 2026, the Australian Government launched its first ever national awareness campaign dedicated to perimenopause and menopause, "Could This Be Perimenopause?", developed by Ogilvy for the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing.
Backed by a $792.9 million women's health package, the campaign highlights common experiences such as hot flushes, sleep disruption, brain fog, anxiety and mood changes, helping women feel seen and better informed during a life stage that has long been under-discussed.
But while Australia has taken a major step forward in women's health, according to Lindsay Kinniburgh, founder of Gold Coast-based dermaplaning and shave care brand Make My Shave, there's another symptom many women quietly experience and rarely talk about: hormonal facial hair and changing skin texture.
As oestrogen drops during the menopause transition, it declines faster than androgens, the hormones women naturally have in smaller amounts. That hormonal shift is what makes fine facial hair, the peach fuzz most women already have, suddenly more visible, particularly around the jawline and upper lip. At the same time, skin cell turnover slows, leaving skin looking duller and feeling rougher than it used to.
It's hormonal, it's common, and it's just as real as everything the campaign is talking about. It just hasn't had its own 'first ever' moment yet. Facial hair changes affect approximately 39%* of women during menopause.
"Perimenopause and menopause are such important topics," says Kinniburgh. "We're finally seeing more open conversations around hot flushes and mental wellbeing, which is incredible, but many women are still navigating changes like increased facial hair in silence, often feeling confused or embarrassed, without knowing it's often the result of hormones and is completely normal."
While there's no one-size-fits-all solution, gentle skincare rituals can play an important role in helping women feel more confident and comfortable in their own skin. One approach gaining attention is dermaplaning: a non-invasive exfoliation technique that removes peach fuzz and dead skin cells, helping to soften rough texture, improve skincare absorption, and restore a brighter appearance without harsh treatments or clinic appointments.
"Dermaplaning can be particularly supportive during this life stage because it's simple, gentle, and delivers immediate results," Kinniburgh explains. "For women experiencing hormonal skin changes, small rituals they can do at home can make a real difference to how they feel day to day."
As national conversations around menopause continue to evolve, Make My Shave is committed to broadening the dialogue, not just around symptoms, but around practical, confidence-building ways women can care for themselves through every phase of life.
