Home is the latest single from Katie Brianna's critically-acclaimed third album,
This Way or Some Other, which has just been nominated for the Australian Music Prize.
Whilst the song was written long before lockdown, has there ever been a more meaningful title for the times that we are going through?
According to Katie,
"Home is based on a very personal story. I get to work through a lot of my feelings and problems through songwriting, and that's why you get so much vulnerability in my music. I've had a pretty easy life overall, and despite my personal struggles with mental health, I know I have it pretty good. I met my husband when I was quite young, and I suppose I felt like I never had to have that struggle of doing it alone, and that maybe I missed out on something. I wrestled with doubts and my emotions a lot and believed I needed to go out and find the independence that I felt I was absent from my life. Really, I didn't miss out on anything. I'm lucky."Like every track on the album, the song is difficult to pigeonhole but definitely sits somewhere in between indie pop/rock and alternative country, once again proving that this album is her most musically-accomplished release to date.
Home is accompanied by a very creative stop-motion
music video, which out of necessity, was made at Katie's home.
The single (and album) was produced by Katie's label mate,
Adam Young, who played in 90's acts the
Daisygrinders and
Big Heavy Stuff and assembled a band featuring himself, along with members of the
Cruel Sea,
the Clouds and more.
With
Home, Katie continues the momentum of what we believe to be the one of the strongest albums released in 2021.
