Interview with Jami Alix

Question: Can you tell us about your role in Boo B****?

Jami Alix: I play Lea who can be described as the suck-up sidekick to the most popular girl in school. Lea is type A, a little bit manic and will do everything in her power to hang with the cool kids. She's definitely a very heightened character, which was almost a little too easy to tap into for me.

Question: Did you always want to pursue a career in the entertainment industry?

Jami Alix: I have loved being in front of the camera since I was a little girl, so that's a strong yes from me.

Question: How has moving to LA influenced your career?

Jami Alix: Growing up in the suburbs of Chicago, I honestly thought I was destined to sit in an office for 9 hours a day. It wasn't until I moved to LA that I realized the 9-5 lifestyle was actually more of an outlier, and I would be crazy not to chase my dreams of playing dress up and emoting all day long.

Question: What or who inspired your love of acting?

Jami Alix: I think it probably started from just being an incredibly emotional kid. I distinctly remember watching Titanic and then running upstairs to my room and watching myself recite some of the lines and cry in my mirror. That was my idea of a wild Saturday night. My dad is also a huge film nerd, so I grew up watching an exorbitant amount of movies and fantasizing about being a part of that world someday.

Question: What moment in your career stands out the most?

Jami Alix: Honestly, I hope we haven't seen it yet. The best is yet to come in my opinion! Sorry for the cheesiness.

Question: If you could work with any other actor or director, who would it be?

Jami Alix: This question is so hard because the list is endless. One of my top directors would have to be Greta Gerwig; she has such an incredible way of showing the most raw and beautiful moments in female-driven content. For actor: I would love to work with Annie Murphy simply because I could watch her comedy all day long.

Question: What advice do you have for aspiring actors?

Jami Alix: Get into classes! Don't wait until the right moment to start. Start now because there's so much to learn about creating a character, breaking down a scene and the business in general. Acting also has a beautiful way of breaking you down and teaching you so much about yourself; it's like therapy for half the price.

Question: What's next for you?

Jami Alix: You may see me playing a very different character in the new On My Block spinoff, 'Freeridge' coming next year!
