WA-band alt-pop outfit Little Guilt explore internalised dialogue and things left unsaid on new single 'Lying To The Table'. The wistful track dives deep into the complicated feelings that arise when you know someone close to you is holding their tongue.
Leaning further into their evolving alt-pop sound, 'Lying to the Table' is lush with hazy synths, layered textures and a gently addictive chorus. It was written during the band's first-ever headline tour of Australia. Ella sang the line "Tell me what you're thinking of" and the group were inspired to build the song around that. Mop wrote some verses, Bevyn laid down a bass line and the track came together quickly. The final recording was brought to life back in WA with producer Dylan Kiernan of Soak Sounds, further cementing Little Guilt's shift toward a more pop-forward sonic identity. The song is led by both of the bands' two vocalists, Ella and Lachlan Thomson, whose duet-style of singing makes their songs so recognisable.
Lachlan says of the track, "It talks about how people tend to conceal their true feelings. You can almost tell when a person you care about is holding their tongue, and it can be frustrating when all you really want to do is get inside their head. People often lie to the table, whether that's to make themselves more appealing, save someone from pain, or stop themselves from feeling uncomfortable emotions. I guess it's in our nature."
The accompanying video was directed by Rhys Rogers and filmed on a hot summer day in WA. Lachlan explains, "We used hand-held mirrors to represent the 'masks' people wear and how we only really tell people what they want to hear."
Taking inspiration from Men I Trust, Palace and Big Scary, Little Guilt have cultivated a sound marked by pop hooks, subtle synth work and honeyed vocals. The band has racked up over 1.5 million Spotify streams across their catalogue, including their debut EP I Do Everything Around The House, released in 2022, and a run of singles leading into their sophomore EP. Their compelling live performance has seen them sell out multiple headline shows in their hometown and earned them support slots with the likes of Telenova, Los Bitchos, Great Gable and DICE.
