Holly Hebe enters a defining new chapter with the release of her highly anticipated third EP Mood Ring, a deeply intimate and sonically immersive body of work exploring heartbreak, superstition, nostalgia and the emotional chaos of growing up. No longer Melbourne's "best kept secret", Holly's latest project marks the arrival of an artist stepping confidently into a new era.
Across Mood Ring, Holly transforms emotional uncertainty into a vivid sonic landscape, capturing the highs, lows and contradictions of navigating love, loss and self discovery. Inspired by colour, texture and memory, the EP blends layered vocals, shimmering production, inventive sampling and Holly's signature piano driven songwriting to create a project that feels nostalgic, cinematic and entirely her own. "Mood Ring is a collection of songs about clinging onto signs, being desperately hopeful and aimlessly sad, superstition and heartbreak. Whilst writing and producing this EP I spent a lot of time drawing and painting, thinking about colours and textures and then trying to emulate this in the sonic landscapes of the songs. Every song has a colour paired with it & eventually they all morphed into one giant emotional pinwheel for me that documents the last year of my life. I wanted to lean into the whimsy of sparkling reversed sounds, vivid lyricism and layered vocals, and incorporate more of the piano which is well and truly my musical home base. All the songs are so special to me."
The EP's focus track Nineteen captures the complicated aftermath of heartbreak and the desire to rewrite moments that changed you. Through nostalgic melodies and emotionally detailed songwriting, Holly explores the feeling of looking back on a relationship and wondering who you were before it began, while confronting the parts of yourself that may have been lost along the way. "I wrote this song after one of those rites of passage, cataclysmic heartbreaks and at the time, my core coping mechanism was to try and pretend the relationship never even happened in the first place. This song is about the sliding doors of it all, the 'what if this ended after the first date' and the realisation that you had lost yourself a little along the way."
Mood Ring arrives following a huge period of momentum for Holly, with the project accompanied by her biggest headline run to date, a national tour presented by triple j, including her first ever New Zealand headline show. Known for her emotionally charged live performances and genuine connection with audiences, Holly has sold out her previous headline shows across Sydney and Melbourne, drawing over 500 fans across the two cities, while performing on major stages including Beyond The Valley and the Australian Open. She has also toured alongside Holly Humberstone, Rainbow Kitten Surprise, Aleksiah, Lyric, The Dreggs, The Rions and Eves Karydas, further cementing her reputation as one of Australia's most compelling emerging live acts.
