Award-winning Darwin comic
Amy Hetherington is set to hit the road in early 2025 yet again - with a whopping
50 shows in 30 different towns across
Western Australia,
South Australia and
Victoria; including her return to
Perth Fringe,
Adelaide Fringe and
The Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
Captivating audiences around the country and beyond throughout her esteemed career, Amy Hetherington's natural charisma, down-to-earth delivery and cheeky observational comedy has made her a crowd favourite in recent years. Her relatable and open approach to comedy tends to draw from her life as a new mum, balancing parenting and stand up comedy, and her experiences living in the Northern Territory.
Her new show '
Proud As Punch' will deliver some of Amy's most fun and vulnerable work yet - reflecting on parenting, road trips, the weirdness of the Territory and what (not) to do when trying to practice 'gentle parenting'.
"Proud as Punch is about the things we're proud of and proving people wrong. It looks at all the new challenges I'm facing as the mother of a three year old, grappling with the pressures of 'gentle parenting' and Instagram. It's filled with bizarre things that have happened in the Northern Territory - which seems to get weirder as the place gets hotter. And I share some of the most embarrassing things that have happened to me in the past year… always a fun overshare" AMY HETHERINGTON After completing a 22 date tour in early 2023, anyone would forgive Amy for taking it easy on this run; but in true Amy fashion she has significantly upped the ante on her return to touring life - with 50 total dates hitting a mix of regional towns and major cities and covering over 20,000km of travel.
With a tour this big hitting towns this remote - Amy realises this won't be the most luxurious tour on the planet; stating that there's "
Nothing pretty about this sort of touring - eating a lot of dimsims and service station snacks, bring our own PA and lighting and setting up in pubs, breweries and venues throughout WA/SA Throwing ourselves into communities and working with locals to make a good night of it for the people in regional Aus". The tour will include towns Amy has never performed in, as well as her welcomed return to world-renowned fringe festivals across the country.
"I'm excited for this tour because it's the biggest tour I've ever produced and it's going to take me to towns across Australia that often miss out. Regional audiences are special and they know how to have a good time. So it's a joy to take these shows on the roadI'm excited to go back to Fringe World Perth. My last solo show there in 2023 won the best comedy award… and I feel this new hour is an elevated and matured voice. Perth audiences are great fun and always so supportive.
Then I get to take the show to Adelaide Fringe. Always a treat to be at the biggest fringe in the southern hemisphere and I'm so lucky I'm performing at the home of comedy in Adelaide, the Rhino Room
And then finally… for the first time since 2019, I'm returning to the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Travel from Darwin is expensive and with a baby it was hard to get back to MICF before now. But this show feels like one I want to take to Melbourne and share with parents." AMY HETHERINGTON Amy's career isn't short of accolades, and the list of achievements has reached new heights over the last few years. During her career she has won the
Fringe World Best Comedy Award (2023) and
Adelaide Fringe Weekly award (2019, 2022, 2024), and was a finalist at the
Melbourne International Comedy Festival RAW competition in 2020. Over her career she has supported comedians such as
Dave Hughes, Glenn Robbins, Fiona O'Loughlin, Jimeon, Akmal, Dave O'Neil, Greg Fleet and even
MTV Jackass alumni
Steve-O. She has become a regular on major TV and radio shows - featuring on
triple J's Hack program,
Sunrise,
Today Show and
ABC News Breakfast - and was involved in a debate for baby-friendly comedy on
ABC Darwin back in April.
She even sold out her run of shows at her first ever
Edinburgh Fringe Festival, so make sure you book
tickets before she gets too expensive!
