One of pop music's biggest breakout acts of the year, artist/DJ/producer duo The Chainsmokers, have unveiled their eagerly-awaited new single -Closer' featuring vocals from rising star Halsey and the duo's own Drew Taggart. The lyric video for the summer-ready single, directed by Rory Kramer, is available to view now HERE. Alex and Drew originally debuted the song in a surprise performance with Halsey at Bonnaroo last month and reignited the crazed anticipation by teasing the track last week.
The release of -Closer', which is currently at #2 on the Australian iTunes chart, comes hot on the heels of the duo's two massive smash hits this year, -Roses' ft. Rozes and -Don't Let Me Down' ft. Daya. Earlier this year, -Roses' steadily climbed the charts reaching #3 on the iTunes chart and top 5 on the ARIA chart. -Don't Let Me Down' ft. Daya, which was named one of Rolling Stone's '30 Best Songs of 2016 So Far", followed, serving as Alex and Drew's second Top 5 hit on the ARIA chart (alongside -Roses'), while also accumulating nearly 400 Million streams on Spotify worldwide. The official -Don't Let Me Down' videos have racked up over 300 Million combined views to date, and the track still maintains positioning in the Top 20 airplay chart.
Internationally, -Roses' is now certified 2 x Platinum in the U.S, Canada, New Zealand, Norway and Sweden; Platinum in Belgium, Brazil, Ireland and Italy; Gold in Germany, Netherlands, Poland, South Africa, Spain and Switzerland. -Don't Let Me Down' is certified 2 x Platinum in the U.S, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway and Sweden; Platinum in Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Finland, Ireland, Italy, Spain and Switzerland; Gold in Denmark, Germany, Poland and Portugal.
Following their breakout performance at Coachella this year, Alex and Drew made their way to Australia for a whirlwind promotional visit. The duo was close to starting a riot when they played an intimate free gig on their last night in Sydney, with hundreds of dedicated fans storming the stage, shutting down the club and forcing the pair to relocate to another venue.
Having performed their hits on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, The Late Late Show with James Corden, and most recently on Good Morning America (watch HERE), The Chainsmokers have proven to be a pop culture breakthrough as one of the top acts in their genre today. Accordingly, the guys just received their first ever MTV VMA nomination, securing a spot in the -Best Electronic Video' category for -Don't Let Me Down'. The guys are also nominated for -Choice Music Group' at the 2016 Teen Choice Awards.
-Closer' Ft Halsey is available to purchase/stream now.
