Tanaya Harper Montreal

Tanaya Harper Montreal

Nostalgic power pop conjurer, Tanaya Harper is excited to announce the arrival of her new EP, Montreal. Featuring the punchy 2020 single 'Emma' and woozy follow up, 'Bad Faith', the four-track stunner will be with us in a matter of weeks on Friday 17 September. The release is now available for digital, CD and vinyl pre-orders and will feature a B-side of live reimagined tracks from Tanaya's performance at last year's Tender is the Night backyard concert. Tanaya is thrilled to also announce that she will be heading on a run of celebratory Western Australian dates, including a hometown EP launch, a second Tender is the Night appearance and supporting indie heavyweights, Custard on the Western Australian leg of their National tour.

Covering themes of recklessness, recovery, exhaustion and elation that come with the territory of living with bipolar disorder, Montreal is a direct extension of Tanaya's 2020 EP Slow Motion Breakup. The sister release continues to emit the same endearing elements Tanaya's solo music has become known for, harking back to its predecessor's moody alternative rock tropes and hazy pop melodies with brutally honest diary entry lyrics. EP opener and first lifted single, 'Emma' is a lush dose of danceable catharsis, while 'Bad Faith' presents a shift in mentality, serving woozy bedroom introspection. The title track is a wandering ballad that begs the question 'where now?' and 'Slow Motion Breakup (Part 2)' offers a short and sweet postscript to its former half, finding closure as Tanaya repeats the mantra 'I don't want to see you anymore'. Featuring fellow Ghost Care bandmates Beau Torrance on lead guitar and Luke Del Fante on drums, with Sara McPherson (NEW TALK, Ursula) on bass, Montreal was recorded and mixed at Blackbird Sound Studio with Dave Parkin (Jebediah, Abbe May, Spacey Jane) and mastered by William Bowden at King Willy Sound
.

"Montreal is a little EP of four tracks that explore a six month period of a relationship; from deciding it's over, to partying hard through the turmoil, and finally, to realising that I have a fear of abandonment that I must address if I'm going to live a fulfilling life." Tanaya Harper

Emerging from beloved indie-rock band Bells Rapids and ushering a slew of loyal fans from her ongoing work with local outfit Ghost Care, Tanaya Harper's solo project solidifies her as a leading lady of Perth's original music scene. Tanaya's first collection of solo material, Some Kinds was nominated for a WA Music Award for best EP and received the local feature on RTRFM with cherished single 'Graceless' being the station's second most played track of the year. Fast forward to 2020 and Harper's follow up EP Slow Motion Breakup garnered more WAM nominations for Best EP, Best Vocalist and Most Popular Act plus a sold out hometown launch. Now the acclaimed local treasure is gearing up to launch Montreal at Perth institution Lyric's Underground on Saturday 2 October with support from Grace Sanders and Julia Wallace. Tickets are on sale now, and are destined to sell out so don't sleep on it.
