Sola Rosa Drops 'Losing Time' feat. Muroki, Announces New Album 'In The Mids'
At the helm of some of Aotearoa New Zealand's most forward-thinking fusion projects, Sola Rosa has spent more than two decades carving out a sound that moves fluidly between soul, funk, hip hop and modern dance music. In 2026, producer, songwriter and musician Andrew Spraggon returns with his eighth studio album, In The Mids.

Moving away from the live band focus of recent releases, In The Mids brings Sola Rosa full circle " back to the foundations of the project as a studio-led exploration shaped by modern dance music and heavy grooves. Drawing influence from contemporary club culture alongside soul, funk and global rhythms, the album prioritises mood, movement and restraint over overt gestures.

The album is introduced with new single 'Losing Time', a collaboration with Aotearoa artist Muroki. A warm, summer-tinged head-nodder driven by an infectious bassline, 70s horns, and subtle funk undercurrent, the track captures a sense of restlessness and escape, balancing groove with emotional weight.

"I first heard Muroki when I took my daughters to see BENEE live " he was the support act and instantly stood out," says Spraggon. "Not long after, I heard a song on the radio and thought, that's a great tune… and it was him. I reached out to see if he'd be keen on a collaboration, and it turned out he was already a fan of a track from my last album."

The pair quickly locked in a session, with Muroki gravitating toward the beat that would become 'Losing Time'.

"We talked about how, even though Aotearoa is home and we love it deeply, there's this familiar pull for Kiwis to leave the nest and explore the world. That conversation became the heart of the lyrics. At the time, Muroki was preparing to move to Berlin " where he now lives " so in a way, the song ended up reflecting his next chapter."

With In The Mids, Sola Rosa signals a renewed focus on production, tone and forward motion " an album shaped for movement, late nights and considered listening, reaffirming Spraggon's place as one of New Zealand's most enduring and quietly innovative musical voices.

Across Sola Rosa's lauded career, the producer has cultivated a global fanbase courtesy of impressive releases and appearances on stages throughout North America, the UK and Europe.

He has performed at festivals including Secret Garden Party (UK), WOMAD (NZ), Kendall Calling (UK), Green Man (UK) and Shambala (UK); while previous collaborations with artists including TALL BLACK GUY, DJ VADIM and HERMITUDE have further established SOLA ROSA as one of the best to come out of Aotearoa.

With over 65 million streams across his work, the number is only expected to rise with the release of IN THE MIDS on Friday 10 April.

To celebrate the release of the album, SOLA ROSA will be touring the record throughout Aotearoa this coming May & June.
