Saskia Lane Hide & Seek Interview

Saskia Lane Hide & Seek Interview

At a time when most people find themselves hiding from the world and seeking for purpose, Melbourne-based Folk/Pop Singer-Songwriter Saskia Lane found her resolve. After rediscovering her love for songwriting earlier this year, she is definitely hiding no more"now ready to unveil the power of a broken woman who has finally found her voice"starting with debut single 'Hide & Seek', and is now available on all streaming platforms!

With production and mixing by Cheyne Luke and mastering by Mark Ashfield, the single's poignant theme about embracing the person you have become was penned by Saskia herself. The piano-based piece is an ode of love to every woman who has ever felt displaced and forgotten"perfectly complemented by Saskia's hauntingly soothing and heavenly vocals, nuanced with a somber key that preludes to the breakthrough and freedom of being unapologetically comfortable in one's skin and spirit. It's a love story to every woman who's ever felt displaced and forgotten.

After a 15-year break from music following a family tragedy, Saskia's journey to healing comes with her desire to help others heal. Very much tied to the story behind 'Hide & Seek' is the birth of Yellow Tulip Boxes, an organisation designed to help women who are experiencing grief, by empowering, inspiring, and supporting them through self-love and education. The subscription boxes are set for release in February 2021.

"It's more important to be true to your current self than to live in the shadows of your past.""Saskia Lane

Influenced by the anti-folk, indie-pop sound of Regina Spektor, Alessia Cara, Missy Higgins, Sia, and Fiona Apple, among others, Saskia is set to make her own mark in the industry. This rising star's depth and unabashed authenticity lyrically, vocally, sonically, and emotionally makes her a standout among her contemporaries. With a single and an EP set to be released in 2021, there's no reason to hide and search for a sound as refreshing as hers. She has it all, folks! Interview with Saskia Lane

Question: How would you describe your music?

Saskia Lane: My music is raw and earthy much like myself. I vibe with a mixture of styles but Folk/Pop is the genre my songs currently sit. My music is created to inspire people to feel more deeply. Every note played or sung is pure emotion that I hope my listeners can connect with.

Question: Can you tell us about Hide & Seek?

Saskia Lane: Hide and Seek was written during Covid lock down and during a transitional period in my life. It's a love song to oneself! A pleading from the shadows of one's past, to just accept and embrace ourselves, flaws and all. To love ourselves unconditionally.

Question: Is there a particular message you hope listeners take from your music?

Saskia Lane: To believe in and love yourself more fully.

Question: After a 15 year break, do you feel like you came back stronger?

Saskia Lane: Absolutely! I have great songwriting material from living an adventurous life full of inspiring stories.

Question: Which is your favourite song to perform live and why?

Saskia Lane: I only got back in music at the end of 2019 and then Covid happened. So I haven't had a chance to perform live sadly.

Question: If you could have anyone, in the world, attend a show, who would it be?

Saskia Lane: Alicia Keys. Her musical presents has made a big impact in my life.

Question: What motivates you most when writing music?

Saskia Lane: Connecting with myself. It's an unravelling process from the darkest hidden corners of my subconscious that reveal my true thoughts and feels.

Question: Which music/artists are you currently listening to?

Saskia Lane: Sampa the great, Odette, Azura Ryder.

Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?

Saskia Lane: There's so many. Again I'd have to say Alicia Keys.

Question: What was your first performance?

Saskia Lane: At 14 playing a song I had written at a school concert.

Question: What has been your favourite part of becoming a music artist?

Saskia Lane: Learning! I love learning. It's such a massive undertaking to do what you love and also become a business owner in the process. As an independent artist you have to fill lots of roles. And not only make great songs but also be an Entrepreneur.

Question: What's a typical day like?

Saskia Lane: I wake up at 5:30am, meditate, go for a run then start my day with vocal warmups and songwriting. I approach it like any business and have a schedule that I try to stick to with clear goals to reach.

Question: What's next, for you?

Saskia Lane: Bringing out my Ep mid 2021 and then going on tour.

Question: How would you describe your personal style?

Saskia Lane: I'm an earthy goddess with a love for bright colours.
