Rachel Burke at Melbourne Central's Tinsel Town

With the festive season now well underway, Melbourne Central is transforming into the go-to party preparation destination for Shop The City, on Wednesday 6 December. Dubbed Tinsel Town, the precinct's event will be filled with everything to ensure party looks and festive gifts are beyond extra this year.

Following an overwhelming response to their previous events (i.e. Unicorn Festival and Millennial Pink Party for VAEFNO), Melbourne Central will undergo a shimmery makeover with tinsel, metallic and glitter themed offers, pop-up stores, events, and also over 100 special offers. Stores will open at 8am, and stay open until 10pm that night.

Party preppers can get in the festive planning mode, by jumping inside The Tinsel Room, created in collaboration with triple threat designer, artist and author, Rachel Burke. Burke's bespoke tinsel jackets have graced the shoulders of celebrities including Patience Hodgson from The Grates and radio presenter, Em Rusciano. The room will be covered ceiling to floor in tinsel, including metallic and sequined walls, rugs, furniture, and props including bejewelled sunnies, pimped wine goblets, and more. Burke's jackets will also be on hand to create a covetable glitterazzi moment or Boomerang with friends. Launching at Shop the City, The Tinsel Room will be open daily until Christmas Eve.

Shoppers will have the opportunity to -tinselfy' their look long after the event, with Burke on hand to personalise clothing and accessories at a pop-up bedazzling station. A perfect addition to any Christmas outfit or a great gift for a glitter-loving friend, each design will be bespoke, featuring sequins, tinsel and/or pom pom embellishment.

Freebie hunters can try their luck at the Glitter Gift Grab booth, located on level 2, where giant glitter becomes currency to exchange for prizes and store vouchers. Lovers of cryptic quizzes can spend their day searching for hidden treasures in Melbourne Central's Treasure Hunt and shopoholics will be able to use Melbourne Central's same day and next day shopping delivery service, Retail Runner, for free within 20km of the CBD when they spend over $50.

Finally, It wouldn't be a true celebration of sparkle without a beauty moment. MAC makeup will host a Glitter Glamorama pop-up event where beauty fanatics can get glitter lip and hair braid transformations, then create a keepsake in the MAC photobooth.

A Melbourne Central study has shown that Melbournians attend six parties, on average, each Christmas period, between November and December1. This is the event for shoppers to attend to ensure they are prepped to last the distance, whilst looking on fleek.
