Snap to it! Photography Competition Returns for a Wild Ninth Year!

Australia Zoo is thrilled to welcome back the Crikey! Magazine Photography Competition for its ninth year, inviting wildlife photographers of all ages and experience to celebrate the beauty of our stunning natural world.

Now one of Australia's largest conservation photography competitions, it attracts thousands of entries from passionate photographers worldwide. From spectacular wildlife images to compelling youth submissions, the competition showcases the power of photography to raise awareness and inspire action for conservation.

Passionate photographer and conservationist Robert Irwin said, "I am so excited that the Crikey Magazine Photography Competition is back! Each year, we encourage people from all walks of life to enter images of wildlife and wild places, and share their unique conservation stories."

"Photography is a great tool to unite everyone and tell stories that need to be told about our natural world, along with the urgency to take action and protect it," said Robert.

"Returning for its ninth year, the competition offers an international platform and an incredible level of exposure to share important messages of conservation," he said.

This year's competition features three open categories; Crikey! Cover, The Natural World, and People's Choice, along with three youth categories designed to inspire the next generation of storytellers.

Entries will be judged by a panel of award-winning photographers including Robert Irwin, Kate Berry, Harman Singh Heer, Day Scott, Ashleigh Scully, Russell Shakespeare and Sean Scott. Judges are looking for striking images that highlight the wonder of wildlife and wild places, and the urgent need to protect it.

"This year, we are looking for originality and a new perspective that shows a sense of passion for the natural world. It's incredible to see the youth already stepping up and becoming more involved," said Robert.

"Through such competitions, we don't want to just make a difference, but we want people around the world to realise they can make a difference too," he said.

Entries open on World Environment Day, 5 June 2025, and close on 31 August 2025. Winners will be announced on 10 October 2025, followed by a striking exhibition of finalists and winning images on display at Australia Zoo.

With Canon Australia and CameraPro on-board as sponsors, winners can look forward to thoughtfully curated prizes, from Canon camera kits to stays at the luxurious Crocodile Hunter Lodge, that reflect the calibre of this year's competition and the inspiring stories behind each image.

Whether you are a seasoned professional or just picking up a camera, this is your chance to help protect the planet, one photo at a time!
