Ocean Alley Chiaroscuro

Ocean Alley Chiaroscuro

Australian rockers Ocean Alley today celebrate the 5-year anniversary of their critically acclaimed breakthrough record, Chiaroscuro. To coincide with the milestone, the band have released an exclusive vinyl repress plus a time capsule merch reprint.

There are two vinyl variants, both limited to 1000 copies; Pink & Purple Marble with bonus slipmat - out today via their online store, plus Transparent Orange - out on April 22 for Australian Record Store Day. Both variants include a special edition postcard insert and inscription on the packaging and vinyl.

Chiaroscuro fervently captured the hearts of Australian audiences, with first cuts of the record 'Overgrown' and 'The Comedown' released in 2017 and the latter reaching #48 in triple j's Hottest 100. The band spent most of that year touring, performing their largest headline shows to date across Australia and New Zealand, with a string of sold out dates including two nights at Sydney's Metro Theatre.

In February 2018, the soulful and summery 'Confidence' was released with the announcement of the forthcoming album, and was a runaway train from there. Chiaroscuro was released on 9 March and debuted at #15 on the ARIA Album Chart. The band performed a sold out Australian tour and visited North America for the first time, along with showstopping appearances at Groovin' the Moo nationally and Splendour in the Grass.

'Confidence' topped the Hottest 100 of 2018 - followed by 'Knees' at #10 and 'Happy Sad' at #100 - peaking at #9 on the ARIA Singles Chart and achieving 3x Platinum certification, while Chiaroscuro has been certified Gold in Australia and New Zealand.

'Confidence' received nominations for 'Song of the Year' at the 2019 ARIA Awards and 'Rock Work of the Year' at the 2019 APRA Awards, while Chiaroscuro was nominated for 'Australian Album of the Year' at the 2018 J Awards.

The Chiaroscuro-era also saw the recording of Ocean Alley's beloved Like A Version cover of '70s classic 'Baby Come Back', which featured an interpolation of Calvin Harris' 'Slide'. It reached #16 on triple j's Hottest 100 of 2018 and has been certified Gold by ARIA.

The last five years have seen Ocean Alley take the world by storm with their dynamic live performances – in 2022 alone, they sold more than 75,000 tickets across Australia and New Zealand, the UK, Europe and North America – as well as major festival appearances like Lost Paradise and Falls Festival.

The six-piece have released two more critically praised albums - Lonely Diamond (2020) and Low Altitude Living (2022), both which debuted at #3 on the ARIA Album Chart, and the latter reaching #5 on the NZ Top 40 Albums Chart. Both records achieved four entries in triple j's Hottest 100 of their respective release years, arriving at 14 total entries across their catalogue and featuring in the countdown for the past six consecutive years. They have achieved more than 600 million streams, and 1.4 million monthly Spotify listeners.

In 2023, the band will feature on all stops of the Groovin' The Moo tour and make an appearance at Darwin's BASSINTHEGRASS festival in May, before embarking on a 18-date tour of North America in August and September.
