Nick Marcus Burnin Interview

Nick Marcus Burnin Interview

Sydney artist Nick Marcus returns with an addictive new single titled 'Burnin'', an uptempo number that effortlessly blends smooth R&B rhythms and funky pop beats.

With playful lyrics that trigger nostalgia, 'Burnin' is all about the initial feeling you have towards someone that you find yourself attracted to, and the burning desire to be with them. Reminiscent of Bruno Mars and old-school Cee-Lo Green, 'Burnin' has the intention of getting you up and moving to the beat.

Produced by Max Mitchell at Major Minor Productions, the track features vibrant instrumentation and lyrics charged with bravado that were written and recorded by Nick himself. His inspirations behind the track include Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars, where Nick found himself wanting to emulate the energy of 'Uptown Funk'.

Nick Marcus is a 21-year-old musician from Sydney with soulful vocals that bring his slightly R&B and pop sound to life. Challenging himself with differing musical styles and moods, Nick's music has the intention of emoting with the listener. Whether it is to get everyone on their feet or reminding them of past experiences, the main reason he creates music is to bring "feeling back."

Expect a lot more from Nick Marcus in 2020, with a self-titled EP slated for release later this year that is sure to showcase his versatility as an artist.

Interview with Nick Marcus

Question: How would you describe your music?

Nick Marcus : I like to take aspects of R&B and pop and fuse these together to create my own sound. I am influenced by old school Cee-lo Green and Bruno Mars.

Question: Can you tell us about Burnin'?

Nick Marcus : Imagine yourself in a nightclub, you turn your head and see the hottest person you've ever seen! Burnin' is about that initial feeling that you have towards someone, and in my lyrics, the story behind it. A burnin' desire for a person.

Question: Is there a particular message you hope listeners take from your music?

Nick Marcus : I want everyone up and tapping their feet to this release, I hope the energy I had in the recording studio singing the song, comes out for the listener because that is my main aim.

Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?

Nick Marcus : I favour performing live. I feel I am at my most vulnerable and can express myself more when performing in front of a crowd who I can connect with!

Question: Which is your favourite song to perform live and why?

Nick Marcus : Right now, I love performing "Blinding Lights" by The Weeknd, or "Bruises" by Lewis Capaldi.

Question: If you could have anyone, in the world, attend a show, who would it be?

Nick Marcus : It would be amazing if John Mayer were to attend my show. He is an absolute inspiration both with his guitar playing skills and song writing.

Question: What motivates you most when writing music?

Nick Marcus : Personal experiences tend to motivate me when writing a song. I find it much easier to express myself with a song after experiences of heartbreak, euphoria etc.

Question: What or who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?

Nick Marcus : My mum handed me a karaoke microphone at 2 years old and I never looked back since! She has supported me throughout this journey, and I couldn't do it without her!

Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?

Nick Marcus : The Weeknd would be a dream collaboration for me as I am influenced by his singing style and have loved his music throughout his whole career.

Question: What is the biggest challenge you have faced along the way to your musical success?

Nick Marcus : Juggling releasing my own music and studying at university has definitely been a challenge but a rewarding one.
