Mr & Mrs Claus

Mr & Mrs Claus

Despite all that 2020 has thrown at them, cancelling Santa celebrations was never an option for the Christmas loving husband and wife team at Sydney Santa Spectacular.  As the countdown to Christmas begins, Australia's own Mr & Mrs Claus are thrilled to announce that they will ring in the festive season by staging a Christmas at Santa's Fun Fair at Rousehill Town Centre.

"For the last 5 years we've staged Australia's biggest Christmas event – The Sydney Santa Spectacular.  With all that's happened this year it just wasn't possible to bring that same event to life.  But we couldn't cancel all the Christmas fun – Christmas is in our DNA.  This year things are different – but we'll still have an event that brings all the fun and excitement of Christmas to life for little and big kids.  And the event will feature our renowned double decker carousel for the first time this year," said Sydney Santa Spectacular founder and director Jade Evans.

The double decker carousel will be the jewel in the crown of the Rousehill based Christmas at Santa's Fun Fair event.  The unique two-story vintage carousel is the only one of its kind in Australia, and is made up of more than 10,000 moving parts that have been painstakingly hand-restored.

"We would usually have had the double decker carousel set up at major events around the country throughout the year – from the Ekka to the Royal Easter and Melbourne Shows.  It's a huge set-up but we usually undertake putting our pride and joy together 8-10 times throughout the year.  This year everything was turned on its head, all these major events were cancelled and so our Christmas Fun Fair will be the first time we will have set it up in 2020," said Jade Evans.

The double decker carousel is reminiscent of the beautiful hand painted carousels that sparkle and turn at Christmas markets and fairs across Europe.

"It's beautiful, and will add a magical touch to our Christmas at Santa's Fun Fair event," said Evans.

With people holding tight to bright spots on the 2020 calendar, Jade says that demand for tickets to the new Christmas at Santa's Fun Fair event has already been strong online.

"We've already had so many inquires that we're sure sessions will sell out quickly, operating within Covid safe number restrictions and boundaries.  We'll be outdoors and are very aware of Covid safety requirements and follow all Service NSW requirements.  Since September, as restrictions started to ease, we've been staging Fun Fairs in regional centres.  We have sanitization stations at each ride, have strict cleaning procedures in place between rides and understand how we need to operate with social distancing.  We're members ALLARA which also governs big amusements parks like Luna Park, as well as major events like the Royal Easter Show, and have refined all our Covid procedures over the last few months," said Jade Evans.

"Every year our Sydney Santa Spectacular event was breaking the previous year's attendance record.  We have had more than 250,000 people through that event over the years.  We won't be able to have the numbers that we usually do through this year's fun fair event but we will still be able to bring Christmas joy to thousands of Sydneysiders.  It's exciting for our family to look forward to."

Favourite rides such as the Bungy trampolines, Storm, Pirate ship, Mini chairs, Tea cup and Toboggan super slide will join the double decker carousel in a beautiful Christmas setting alongside Santa in a Christmas setting at Rousehill Town Centre.

With a strong emphasis on value-for-money for families, event organisers have created a $25 unlimited rides armband that is on-sale online, and will give festivalgoers access to unlimited rides over a three-hour session at the event. Purchase of the armband at the Santa Fun Fair entry will be $30.

"Even in the years before we founded Sydney Santa Spectacular, my husband Josh and I were obsessed with Christmas. Everyone jokes that we're Mr & Mrs Claus.  We have six kids – our little elves, so we know how expensive it can be to take a big family to a special event – especially at a pricey time like Christmas.   And even more so this year after all the hardships of Covid  We don't want anyone to miss out, which is why we're offering this special deal," added Jade.

The Evans family are looking forward to finishing 2020 on a high.  "We're show people.  All of our work throughout the year is based on large scale events.  And this year every single one of them was cancelled – it's been heart breaking.  We've pivoted and used our chilled food trucks to create a business called "I Love Hampers."  The hampers have gone gang busters – especially around Mother's Day and Father's Day.  But events is what we love – and Christmas in particular, and we're excited to be back bringing that to life," added Jade Evans.
