INXS Rise To The Top Of New Zealand Chart

Following the ratings bonanza and chart success in Australia earlier this, INXS have once again risen to the top of the charts in New Zealand.

Buoyed by the screening of the acclaimed INXS: Never Tear Us Apart mini-series on the national TV3 network over the last two Thursday evenings to massive ratings success, as well as extensive in-market promotion by band mates Kirk Pengilly and Tim Farriss (an Executive Producer of the show) – the renowned INXS catalogue has enjoyed an historic sales boost – reflected in this week's Official NZ Music Chart.

INXS' -The Very Best', released in 2011, has climbed to the Top of the New Zealand album chart – INXS' first New Zealand #1 album since the release of INXS Kick in 1987.

INXS' landmark -Kick' album from 1987 had also re-entered the album chart last week at #27 and moved up to #11 this week, its highest placing since 1987. Three of the top forty selling New Zealand albums last week were INXS titles.

Creative Director and Executive Producer of the television show, CM Murphy said 'We are extremely pleased that the story and music of INXS has resonated so well with New Zealand audiences, which is being reflected in the ratings and the charts! It is also the result of great collaboration with our production partners Shine, broadcast partner TV3, label partner Universal Music and the tireless work ethic of the band."

When -Never Tear Us Apart' aired in Australia in February of 2014, the show achieved the highest viewership of any programme this year, reaching 3m people across the 2 episodes. It also resulted in INXS making ARIA chart history, with 2 albums (-The very best' @ #1 and -Kick' @ #2) at the top of the chart simultaneously – a feat never before achieved by any Australian band. -The Very Best' remained at #1 for a phenomenal 7 weeks and is the highest selling album in Australia for 2014. At the time of the broadcast, INXS had 6 albums in the ARIA Top 20 chart.

''Never tear Us Apart' is the culmination of CM Murphy's vision to transform INXS into a global Brand. An excerpt from the autobiography -MURPHY – The Making Of CM Murphy: The Son, the Father, The Goals, The Wins and the triumph of INXS': In 2013, CM Murphy set out on one of his greatest challenges as he removed all of his usual revenue streams so he could concentrate solely on making sure the final phases were in place to complete the job he'd set out to do five years ago; transforming INXS from a band to a brand, and allow Michael Hutchence's soul rest in peace.

Alongside the international roll out of the television show, Petrol and Universal Music will release a new INXS special edition vinyl box set entitled -All The Voices' on September 1st. -All The Voices' is a 10LP deluxe Boxed Set housing all 10 key studio albums-re- mastered and packaged in exact replicas of 9 of the original vinyl albums. It is also the first time -Elegantly Wasted' will be available on vinyl. The included albums are -INXS'; -Underneath The Colours'; 'Shabooh Shoobah'; 'The Swing'; -Listen Like Thieves'; -Kick';

'X'; -Welcome To Wherever You Are'; -Full Moon, Dirty Hearts' and 'Elegantly Wasted'.

CM Murphy said 'with the resurgence of vinyl as a physical format, it is the perfect time for fans to enjoy the INXS catalogue in its original form and elegant package".
