FRIDAY*, returns with his highly anticipated new EP rituals, led by focus track "braid", marking a decisive evolution in both sound and concept. Following his debut EP Darling (2023), which introduced him as one of Australia's most compelling new voices, FRIDAY* now steps into a darker, more expansive creative era shaped by identity, technology and transformation. rituals is a body of work shaped through periods of personal change, exploring the breaking of old patterns and the formation of new ones, capturing the emotional turbulence and repetition of early adulthood. At its core, the EP reflects a continuous cycle of reinvention, positioning FRIDAY* as a next-generation creative voice building a fully realised sonic world that extends beyond music.
Across his career, FRIDAY* has continued to build momentum through standout moments including Laneway Festival and Vivid LIVE, alongside support slots for Paris Texas (USA) and 1300, cementing a reputation for commanding live performances. He has also received strong national and community radio support across triple j, Double J and FBi Radio, alongside key DSP placements including Spotify's New Music Friday AU & NZ and Apple Music's New Music Daily.
At the centre of rituals is focus track "braid", a concept-driven exploration of connection, identity and digital distortion. "braid is a song about a love triangle between you, another person, and the internet. I wanted to write about two people's constructed online personas obstructing their journey to a genuine connection with each other. Production-wise it exists squarely within the world of Afro-Futurism. Like the rest of the project I wanted to use processed, electronic sounds in an organic way - like a band in a room. If there's a song that encapsulates Rituals as a project, it's this one. I've been told that my music sounds like the internet, this is my first song that is also about the internet."
Built within an Afrofuturist sonic framework, "braid" expands the world of rituals, where electronic textures are shaped with organic intent, blurring the line between digital and human performance. The result is a sound that feels both futuristic and grounded, reinforcing FRIDAY*'s evolving production identity.
With rituals, FRIDAY* builds on the foundations of Darling, but pushes further into darker, more experimental territory defined by contrast, emotion and sonic depth.
He has also been recognised as a triple j Unearthed Feature Artist of the Week and FBi Radio Independent Artist of the Week, with additional profile support through the ABC Full Circle documentary, highlighting his growing impact within Australia's new music landscape.
Firmly embedded in the Full Circle collective, working alongside Nick Ward, Sollyy, Breakfast Road, Dylan Atlantis and Zion Garcia, FRIDAY* continues to expand his creative world through collaborations with artists including Jerome Blazé, Station Hayds, Jack Slade and Emjaysoul. With the release of rituals and focus track "braid", FRIDAY* continues to refine a distinctive artistic universe defined by Afrofuturist influence, conceptual storytelling and forward-thinking production, positioning him as one of the most compelling new voices shaping the next wave of contemporary music.
