Colie Kids These Days

Colie Kids These Days

Staying true to her personal brand of storytelling and observational lyricism, Townsville singer-songwriter Colie returns with another meaningful song 'Kids These Days'; laden with love and introspect. The single premiered earlier this week via triple j's Unearthed TOPS and released alongside a video that premiered via Purple Sneakers yesterday.

Winner of the triple j Unearthed Regional QLD Level Up Grant, this allowed Colie an opportunity to fund her project and open up to a wider audience. For this release, she worked closely with musician and producer Alistair Richardson (Clea, Zefereli) where they worked in his home studio in the Scenic Rim. Providing backup vocals, the song is a slight pivot to her usual folk-tinged, and acoustic-driven sound and displays Colie's ever-growing sound and artistry.

The new single explores the themes of family and puts a deeply reflective lense on love of the purest kind, in particular of her grandparents: "Kids These Days" digs into the old and dusty family photo albums. It's a retrospective look at growing up in regional Queensland. The family holidays, the wholesome example of true love set by loving grandparents.," Colie explains.

The video was filmed, directed and edited by her longtime collaborator Rob Crispe and visually complements the song's theme of family and the simplicity of togetherness. Throughout the video, each shot has a cinematic appeal and a driving narrative that gives off a light and endearing sensibility; all the while capturing the picturesque landscapes of regional Australia.

Off to a great start, 'Kids These Days' landed on Spotify's Indie Arrivals and Apple's New Music Daily as well as being added to triple j's Unearthed radio rotation. Since the release of her first single 'Sunday News' in February 2019 followed by her EP 'Bug On A Lamplight', Colie has received extensive airplay across radio triple J unearthed, Double J, ABC Local, 2RRR, and more. To follow she released her introspective single 'Half Of What You Are' that premiered via triple j's Roots N All and received airplay on Home & Hosed. She has also been seen sharing stages with artists such as Lime Cordiale, Greta Stanley, Alex Lahey and playing extensively throughout the East Coast.

With an upcoming show playing alongside Ayla and Sycco at Eumundi Brewery on 12 December, there's no stopping Colie as she rises to occasion and shares her deepest, and most heartfelt work yet.
