Written by
Shane Nicholson with
Matt Benbrook (
Dido, Lana Del Ray) and
Amy Lawton on a writing trip to London in 2019,
'Holding Pattern' brings two gifted Queenslanders together for the first time.
22 year old
Camille Trail's sultry melting pot of country, folk, blues and gospel has earned accolades far and wide, as well as three
Top 30 singles in
The Music Network Country Hot 50 airplay charts. Her single
'Devil's Drink' peaked at
#19 on the chart and its follow up
'Little History' featured on
Spotify's Country Chill and
Apple Music's Southern Craft playlists with over 110k streams to date. A highly regarded Australian troubadour,
Brad Butcher is a dual
Golden Guitar winner –
Best New Talent in 2018 and
Alt Country Album of the Year in 2020 for his seminal album
Travelling Salesman.
Camille and
Brad both live near Rockhampton and share a love of roots music. They'd been toying with the idea of touring together for a while, and when
Camille heard
Shane Nicholson's demo of
'Holding Pattern' she immediately knew who she wanted to sing it with.
"
I first met Brad in about 2018 when I was at Uni in Brisbane" recalls
Camille.
"We wrote a song together and I subsequently grew to love his music. We've come to know each other more now that I'm working in the music industry and we don't live far from each other. I was completely stoked when he agreed to sing Holding Pattern with me".
There was never any doubt that the extraordinary
Shane Nicholson would produce the track, having been on board as producer of
Camille's three singles to date, as well as her forthcoming album. He's a friend and admirer of
Brad and is himself a Queenslander.
"Holding Pattern is a song I wrote in London with Matty Benbrook and Amy Lawton (pre-Covid)" says
Nicholson.
"I had no real plans for the song, so when Camille asked to record it as a duet with Brad Butcher I was stoked! Especially because they both sing like bloody angels, and they ultimately sold the story of the song perfectly."
The video for
'Holding Pattern' was directed by
Levi Appleton who worked last year with
Brad on his
'I Walk the Line Revisited'. It's a simple performance video shot at
45 On East, a café and music venue in
Rockhampton.
Camille will be hitting the road in August supporting
ARIA and
Golden Guitar winner
Shane Nicholson and will also open select shows for
Golden Guitar nominee
Michael Waugh. Plans are also afoot for dates with Brad.
With an upcoming performance at
Savannah in the Round, the last word goes to yet another Queenslander and early champion of
Camille's. Say's
Savannah in The Round Festival Director
James Dein on hearing her for the first time in 2020
"Wow what a talent...on repeat at home with a whiskey right now. Hints of Patsy Cline, Norah Jones…wow!"
