After
10 years together as a band,
12 national tours and
3 international showcases, Bad Pony are ready to share their debut album,
'Forever Up & Coming' with the world.
An album marked by sincerity, it's a indie-pop-rock gem that is polished, explorative and filled with genuine artistry reminiscent of iconic front runners and fan favourites
Foals, The Wombats, Two Door Cinema Club, and
alt-j. "The album is a spectrum of all types of music we love and it's designed to take the listener on a descent into darkness. We want there to be something for everyone on it. Thematically it covers some ground about loss, depression, triumph, addiction, religion, community, but I think most of all love. We've been a band for 10 years and as most artists have had to, we've also confronted what "success" means to us and also what it doesn't. Throughout that time we've been consistently described with phrases like "on the rise" or "the next to break out" so we thought "fuck it, let's just wear it!." The title of the album is "Forever Up & Coming"." Bad Pony This
10-track album is a culmination of
3 years of writing, refinement and recording. It showcases a band who has found confidence in their sound and honed their craft.
"As soon as we returned from playing at SxSW in 2018 we wanted to make an album. It's been a dream of ours and though it was a long process we're so psyched with the end result. We started tracking at a makeshift studio we set up in a little farm cottage in Pokolbin in 2018. We took those sessions home and added to them from our home studios as well as a session at Studios 301 in Sydney"
Bad Pony 'Back To Basics' opens the album with a gentle opening swirling of strings, acoustic guitars and spatious vocals that pulls you in. Halfway through they flip the switch and unleash their power, setting the stage for the remainder of the album.
The album then morphs and twists through various vignettes of introspection that map themes of loss, triumph, addiction, community and most of all love. Dabbling in pop arrangements, cathartic rock choruses, to moments of punk, orchestral and rap. At surface level this might seem an ambitious undertaking but the result is a refined distillation of pure artistry, linked by an overarching genre of power packed rock that
Bad Pony has been known to deliver.
Recorded at a mix between
301 Studios in Sydney, a makeshift studio farm cottage in Pokolbin, as well as band members
Sam Thomlinson's home studio in Sydney and
Jarred Young's studio 'Chomp Chomp' at Russell Island QLD/Thornbury Vic. Adding to this, the tracks were then mixed by
Alex L'Estrange (My Own Pet Radio, Jaguar Jonze, Hope D) with mastering by
Ben Feggans (RÜFÜS DU SOL, Mallrat, Ngaiire, Eves Karydas). Bad Pony have an established reputation and industry acclaim such as performing at
