While the frocks were a mix of neutral, bold and bejewelled, or brave, and makeup was dominated by nude lips (with the occasional slick of colour - thanks Angie), dewy skin and defined eyes, the glamorous women of Hollywood chose a simplified approach to their tresses!

"Texture was certainly the big winner at the 2012 Golden Globes with many hair styles, whether the styles were up or left loose," says Tracey Hughes, Mieka Hairdressing Creative Director and 2011 Australian Masters. "Many of these beautiful women worked with their hair's own naturalmovement/texture, adopting a non-fussy approach to their tresses."

So who got it right, who missed the mark and who can do better according to Tracey?

Number 1 HIT: Jodie Foster

She's one of the veterans of the silver screen and she has proven to be a winner in the hair fashion stakes this year. Here Jodie chooses to keep it uncomplicated with a simple, classic beautiful bob. A timeless look which suits her face shape beautifully, and is age appropriate.

Number 2 HIT: Sarah Hyland

The Modern Family star looked stunning in a nude vintage Dolce & Gabbana lace dress with a black satin bow clasp. Pairing it with simple relaxed waves, pinned up with loose tendrils was a good move from her hairstylist who still managed to embrace the hair's natural texture.

Number 3 HIT: Angelina Jolie

The statuesque screen goddess barely ever gets it wrong, and she was once again at her best this year. Angelina exuded simplicity at it's finest - her hair slicked back into a back bun with a slight raw edge.

Number 4 HIT: Selma Hayek

This is a fantastic example of great voluminous waves, coupled with an ombre colour effect, which translates into a very popular look.

Misses

Honourable Mention: Tilda Swinton

Tilda is known for her non-conformist and androgynous approach to fashion, but even though her blonde quiff is of the moment it's a little too big and not 'cool' enough. BUT it certainly gave a raw edge to her Haider Ackermann outfit - very fashion forward.

Number 1 MISS: Michelle Williams

She put in an award-winning performance for My Week With Marilyn and although I love a good short haircut, Michelle would have been better served leaving the headband at home. Her dress was statement enough.

Number 2 MISS: Julie Bowen

Modern Family won an award this year, but for me, Julie's oldfashioned styling is a year behind in the hair fashion trends. This look is too Hollywood Glamour and in stark contrast to the textured styles many other starlets were wearing.
