'Champion Large Brewery' at annual Craft Beer Awards
-Best Beer' at Wetherspoons International Real Ale Festival

Australia's first female owned and operated beer brewing company, Two Birds Brewing, is taking the craft beer industry by storm, recently taking out awards on both the local and international stage.

Two Birds co-owners, Jayne Lewis and Danielle Allen, are flying high from their results at the annual Craft Beer Awards, where they won several awards and retained their Kegstar Champion Large Brewery title, a title they shared with 4 Pines in 2014. Not only did the ladies back up their previous triumph, but the beer they brewed earlier this year with the Pink Boots Society, the Neneh Cherry Saison, was named Champion French / Belgian Ale.

Two Birds haul of three Gold medals – for the Saison plus their two original ales, Golden Ale and Sunset Ale, ensured they took out the highest number of Gold medals awarded to any exhibitor in the awards.

The Craft Beer Awards this year attracted 468 entries, draught and packaged, from 91 Australian breweries and were judged by a panel of experts from Australia and overseas, with the best of the best announced at an awards ceremony on Friday evening.

Commenting on the wins at the annual Craft Beer Awards, Jayne Lewis said: 'We are incredibly proud of the fact that all seven of our entries received a medal and that we received gold medals for two of our core beers, Golden and Sunset Ale. It is such great recognition of the hard work that takes place in the brewery and is a mark of the consistency and quality of the beers that we're producing. We are absolutely stoked."

In another massive coup, Two Birds Sunset Ale won Best Beer in the 2015 Wetherspoons Real Ale Festival last week, beating 49 other beers from the UK and around the world.

The Wetherspoons Real Ale Festival is the world's biggest real ale festival, running for 17 days from 16th Oct to 1st Nov in the UK, with each beer being brewed locally, after being chosen as the best of the best from previous Wetherspoons Festivals.

For the Wetherspoons Festival, the Two Birds ladies brewed their Sunset Ale (4.6 per cent ABV) at Everards Brewery in Leicester. The award winning Red Ale features rich, round, toffee-like malt characters and a combination of Australian and American hops, which contributes a light grapefruit and citrus note.

Jayne Lewis celebrating Two Birds' win Wetherspoon's Marketing Manager, Rob Davies said: 'Two Birds Sunset Ale received the accolade of Champion Beer, as it was considered by a number of the judges to be the beer they would most like to drink again, due its beautifully balanced, distinctive flavour."

Two Birds Brewing is the brainchild and passion of Jayne Lewis and Danielle Allen, who grew up and met in Perth over 16 years ago, when after a two-week tour of the West Coast of the United States in 2010, they embarked on their dream to own and run their own brewing company, which is based in Spotswood, Victoria.
