The Melbourne Fair

The Melbourne Fair

The Melbourne Fair is returning this March to turn Caulfield Racecourse into a treasure trove of Australia's most unique pieces of furniture, fine art, jewellery, couture and more, from some of the country's most respected dealers. From Thursday 23rd to Sunday 26th March, visitors looking to take home a piece of history can discover thousands of objects from all eras including Antique, Art Deco, Mid Century Modern and high-crafted Vintage wares.

With all pieces available to purchase, The Melbourne Fair is a highlight on the calendar for those looking to invest in sustainable pieces for the home that are made to last and have stood the test of time. A gathering of specialists in Jewellery, Art, Furniture, Lighting, Beautiful Objects and Fashion, the exhibitors are ready to share their advice, knowledge and unmatched passion to help visitors on their buying journey.

Just some of the special objects available this year are a 1950s diamond necklace with matching brooch and earrings, a rare Mid Century French Jielde Lamp, a Wedgwood Fairyland Lustre Vase and an Australian made 50's sleepy hollow chair.

For those looking to learn more about the objects on sale and the eras represented, the fair is supported by a full program of events, talks and art appraisals. From curated exhibitions of vintage fashion to a fascinating look at mourning jewellery, there will be something for everyone.

On both Saturday and Sunday, jewellery historian Hayden Peters will take visitors on a fascinating deep dive into mourning jewellery and how to identify it, bringing together the history of early-modern society, politics, design and fashion.

Lovers of all things style can tune into Tom McEvoy, a fashion anthropologist who will be taking to the stage to share his passion for historical garments and extensive knowledge of 20th century fashion, and more specifically how Melbourne became the fashion capital of Australia.

Those looking to expand or evaluate their art collections can seek out the help of Leigh Capel of Belle Époque Fine Art who will be offering free art appraisals to all attendees of the fair. Leigh is an accredited valuer of the Auctioneers and Valuers Association Australia and has many years' experience working at some of Australia's most prestigious Fine Art Auction Houses, including Sotheby's and Menzies.

Fair goers keen for a show can nab a front row spot at the fashion parade as exclusive and elusive fashions from the 1920's-1970's take to the catwalk. Narrated by Inger Sheil who has a passion for historic fashion and 18 years' experience in the museum sector, the parade will showcase Australian and international designers who created change.

Events as part of the Melbourne Fair are included in the ticket price and run across the three days.
