The Feelgood Hub

World First In Clothing Recycling Launches In Melbourne

SCRgroup, Australia's leading and most effective clothing recycling service is launching a world first – digital clothing drop-off hub - just as National Recycling Week kicks off.

With innovative technology and designed to combat the issue of illegal dumping around collection sites, SCRgroup is set to launch the all-new drop-off hub – the Feelgood Hub - on 12 November at Bourke St Mall, Melbourne. The launch also marks the start of National Recycling Week.

Already a leader in the space, SCRgroup is one of few recycling companies that guarantees 100% landfill diversion by converting all unusable items into alternate fuel. Committed to bettering the management of Australia's unforgivable level of waste, over the last 10 years SCRgroup has diverted more than 75,500 tonnes of clothing from landfill - and this world-first technology aims to make the collection process even easier.

The design of clothing drop-off hubs has remained unchanged for the past 50 years, and SCRgroup saw an opportunity to modernise the unit to become more relevant to meet the needs of their users. The new design represents a significant shift from the traditional metal clothing bins, with a focus on innovation, technology and aesthetics.

Suitable for outdoor and indoor spaces such as shopping centres, the hubs include informational screens, two chutes, and two clear windows. One model features two static lightbox screens, while the other model features a video screen to show rolling informational content from SCRgroup to educate users on how beneficial clothing recycling is to both global communities and to the environment. The two chutes are for ease of use, and the two clear windows on either side are for safety purposes, ensuring staff and the public alike can see what is being collected. The hubs will also light up at night, adding another safety feature that hasn't been seen before in clothing recycling.

In addition, there is an option for auto-sensor technology to be included in the all-new hubs, which will automatically notify staff when a hub is almost full. This ensures that the collection centre can be emptied before it overflows – SCRgroup is one of Australia's very first recycling companies to have this capability.

As well as reducing illegal dumping and diverting clothing from landfill, the launch of the new hubs also promises to give back to the local community. For every Feelgood Hub installed, a job will be created for an at-risk member of the surrounding area. Collaborating with Whitelion to make this a reality, SCRgroup will train a disadvantaged young person and create a part-time role for them to service and maintain the hubs.

Alexis Todorovski, Head of Marketing and Education at SCRgroup says, "We are very excited to launch the Feelgood Hub on November 12th. It's not only a huge step for SCRgroup as a business, but also clothing recycling worldwide."

"We hope the new look design creates much needed awareness around clothing recycling, prompts people to recycle more and makes users feel good about giving us their unwanted clothes. It's important to us to educate Australians about where their items go and the importance of reusing and recycling for the environment."

"This is just the start, and we're looking forward to introducing the new hubs nationally as well as creating new jobs for local young people and supporting other Australian charities along the way."

With global interest in the hubs already, SCRgroup is paving the way for the world's future in clothing sustainability. The first Feelgood Hub will be available for clothing drop-offs in Melbourne's Bourke St Mall for the duration of National Recycling Week from 12 – 18 November.

Members of the public are encouraged to drop-off their pre-loved clothing at the new hub during the week, and they can also post a photo of themselves using the Feelgood Hub on social media to be in with the chance of winning a number of prizes throughout the week – including a night's stay at Crown, an Emporium voucher, and dinner at 400 Gradi.
