Synopsis: "Star Trek Beyond," the highly anticipated next installment in the globally popular Star Trek franchise, created by Gene Roddenberry and reintroduced by J.J. Abrams in 2009, returns with director Justin Lin ('The Fast and the Furious" franchise) at the helm of this epic voyage of the U.S.S. Enterprise and her intrepid crew. In 'Beyond," the Enterprise crew explores the furthest reaches of uncharted space, where they encounter a mysterious new enemy who puts them and everything the Federation stands for to the test.
Review: Star Trek Beyond begins similar to many episodes of the original Star Trek television series: a ship unresponsive to hails, in distress with a newly undiscovered life form requesting assistance.
Nostalgia sets in as Captain Kirk pushes forward into the unknown with the familiar but new crew members, we have learned to love, when out of the darkness swarms of ships appear and shred the enterprise into pieces in astonishing efficiency sending the captain and his crew into an action packed, edge of your seat adventure.
Stranded in a graveyard of ships they must avoid being hunted and stop this imminent threat to all other federation outposts and cities.
In many movies of today there has been a trend of compromising storyline for visual effects, this was not the case with Star Trek Beyond; with a familiar yet new storyline alongside top of the range visual effects to keep you wanting more.
It was not all serious; some may remember the familiar banter between Spock and the Doctor in the original series and I believe they portrayed their characters extremely well. The filmmakers and cast have exceled in breathing new life and forging a new path into the series.
I would rate this movie 10/10 as an original series fan.
