Seed & Spark is a community space that has been operating for just over a year in Sydney's Inner West.  It has been designed to help locals "be your adult self, make connections with other like-minded mums (and dads), and feed your mind, body and soul, and learn something new."   Over the past year, Seed & Spark has been working with local creatives to offer a range of interactive short courses for adults and children – everything from magic classes through to sewing classes.
Julie Huynh from Seed & Spark is part of the Lady Startup  (LSU) Lounge – a Facebook group for women business owners founded by Mia Freedman – a site Julie has found to be a great source of innovative ideas and collaboration.   When she asked via a post for suggestions for the Seed & Spark space during some planned downtime in December, other LSU members suggested a Christmas Pop-Up Market.
This seemed the perfect way for Seed & Spark to showcase what makes the space unique!
First to jump on board was fellow Lady Startup members Lisa and Zoe Paisley, with their tasty Aggie Gifts offering: food-based gifts and hampers that showcase produce from Aussie farmers and Indigenous suppliers with a sustainable, bushfood focus.
They were joined by local florist Julia Glass from Flowers by Julia G who will be showcasing her dried floral wreaths and hairpieces, and ceramicist Bruna Rodwell from Glaze Galleria who will have her signature wheel-thrown homewares from her Drummoyne studio,  plus some fun seasonal ceramic decorations.
Julia and Bruna, both current tutors at Seed & Spark, were quickly joined by small
batch jeweller, Mrs Lizzie P whose modern minimalist earring designs are sure to be popular as gifts.
Invitations were then extended to other local artists and gift creators – with a total of just eight exhibitors selected to participate in the weekend event – five stalls each day.
The remaining stallholders include incredibly talented ceramicist Kristi Pupo with a range of functional and sculptural wares, local works-on paper and "upcycle" artist Susan Hando offering original graphite-based artworks, fabric/word collages and 3D cards, German-born artist and print maker Laura Lorbeer with her vibrant range of paintings, illustrations, calendars and greeting cards and sensational natural soap maker Cristina Romeo whose beautiful soaps are almost artworks in their own right!
With just five makers being showcased each day, the result is a small bespoke event where you can pop in to take some "me-time", do some Christmas shopping and be part of the
shop small | shop local approach.
"Some markets are quite large and overwhelming, so we have taken the shop small idea to heart, with a hand-picked selection of just five stallholders each day to offer a nice mix of products while showcasing local talents," said Lisa Paisley from Aggie Gifts.
The lovingly curated mix of stallholders will feature fresh and dried flowers, floral headpieces and wreaths, original artworks and prints, hand-made cards and word/fabric collages, organic soaps and skincare products, amazing edible gifts that give back, antique wooden bobbins, simply gorgeous ceramics and beautiful hand-crafted earrings.  Christmas baubles, cards and decorations will also be available.
Pop on over to the Pop-up next weekend if you are keen to find the perfect gift for a special person...or go home with a  stylish gift to pop under the tree for yourself.
But be quick!  All items are hand-made, not mass produced, so everything is available in limited quantities – in some cases – they are one-of-a-kind originals!
