Question: What is kefir?
Simon Micarone: Kefir is a fermented drink, traditionally made using cow's or goat's milk. It is made by adding kefir grains to milk. These are not cereal grains, but grain-like colonies of yeast and lactic acid bacteria. During fermentation, the microorganisms in the kefir grains multiply and ferment the sugars in the milk, turning it into kefir. Then the grains are removed from the liquid forming a smooth yogurt type consistency.
Question: How can we easily work kefir into our diets?
Simon Micarone: Think of it as a morning ritual to set your day up with wellness.

Simon Micarone: It's an enjoyable way to incorporate probiotics into our lives. Depending on lifestyle choices (food, alcohol, sleep and lack of exercise) our digestive health can become out of balance. So having a Tummify once a day will help balance the good and the bad bacteria in the stomach. Simon Micarone: It's naturally occurring rather than processed which is suitable for the whole family. Tablets are only prescribed to adult and powders to children. Why not have something that is suitable for the whole family?
Question: Why are we seeing kefir everywhere, right now?
Simon Micarone: People are more conscious about their health and what they put in their body. Information had become a lot more readily accessible and people are invested in the ingredients of products. While Kefir has been around for a long time only now are people really starting to understand the true miracle that it is. It really is nature's probiotic!
Question: Why is it crucial to keep our gut healthy?
Simon Micarone: Better digestive health has a range of benefits from immunity, heart health, brain health, improved mood, sleep and better skin and increased regularity.
Question: Which foods do we need to ensure we are and are not eating alongside kefir?
Simon Micarone: Food diversity = microbiota diversity
• Eat a wide variety of multi-coloured, whole plant foods and plant fibres weekly
• Eat / buy/ grow or use organic
• Eat more raw fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds, as allowed by your current gut tolerance. Start slowly and increase as you go at your own pace. Listen to your body, it's your best guide. Raw produce has more bacteria on them including soil bacteria – which increases diversity
• Fermented foods – will temporarily improve the diversity. Use kefir to re-introduce species after antibiotics – the bacteria in kefir fill empty spaces and prevent pathogens and fungi to take residence
• Exercise moderately
