Roasted and Grinded Crickets - World's Most Sustainable Superfood

Crickets are the world's most sustainable superfood, using very few resources such as land, feed and water.

"If a family of four ate one meal a week for a year using insect protein, instead of beef protein, they would save the Earth 650,000 litres of fresh water", explains Aussie registered nutritionist and food scientist Kriben Govender.

Kriben, the Founder of Nourishme Organics explains "our organic Non-GMO cricket powder is almost 70% protein and has more calcium than milk, more iron than spinach and almost 20 times more B12 than beef. It's also high in fibre, Omega 3, Omega 6 and boasts all nine essential amino acids. It is a proven prebiotic that can help improve gut health and is naturally dairy free, gluten free and keto and paleo friendly."

"Once the crickets are euthanised, they are rinsed in potable water, roasted and then ground into a fine powder. Rinse, Roast and Grind."

"Our licenced harvest method is the most humane methods of euthanasia and developed to align with the standards applied for the human food industry with hygiene as a top priority".

"Cricket powder has a pleasant nutty, earthy aroma and flavour with a soft powdery texture and a light brown appearance. Simply add a tablespoon (10g) to baked goods, use it when cooking or mix with drinks."

Nourishme Organics uses quality, organic, NON-GMO grain feed for their free-range organic crickets. Nourishme Organics' insects are free from pesticides, insecticides, antibiotics, additives and preservatives.

Kriben Govender: Cricket powder is packed with powerful nutrients that occur naturally, so we only have to use very few resources to make it such as little land, feed and water. Therefore, is has as significantly low ecological footprint making it better for your planet. To put it in perspective, if a family of four ate one meal a week for a year using insect protein, instead of beef protein, they would save the Earth 650,000 litres of fresh water.

Question: What are the benefits of having non-GMO cricket powders?

Kriben Govender: Our organic Non-GMO cricket powder is almost 70% protein and has more calcium than milk, more iron than spinach and almost 20 times more B12 than beef. It's also high in fibre, Omega 3, Omega 6 and boasts all nine essential amino acids. These properties can offer substantial health benefits such as promoting weight loss, bone health, building muscle mass and reducing risk of heart disease and colon cancer. It is also a proven prebiotic that can help improve gut health by boosting Bifidobacteria and is naturally dairy free, gluten free and keto and paleo friendly.

Question: What is the idea behind eating roasted and grinded crickets in powder form?

Kriben Govender: Roasted and ground cricket flour has a mild nutty flavour. This makes it easy to add to smoothies, protein shakes, soups, casseroles and even baked goods like gluten free cookies, muffins and biscuits.

Question: How is this product from Nourishme Organics made?

Kriben Govender: We harvest the crickets and make the powder in our store in Melbourne. Our licenced harvest method is the most humane method of euthanasia and developed to align with the standards applied for the human food industry with hygiene as a top priority.
