How To Have The Best Summer On A Budget

The evenings are getting lighter, the weather is getting warmer and the smiles on your friends' faces are getting wider " summer is here!

Nice weather can often mean one thing though: you want to get out more! Before worrying about the extra expenses that summer can often bring, read our tips on how to enjoy this season on a budget.

Try something new

If you've been longing to try a new activity for a while but haven't yet got around to it, these summer months could be the ideal time. Whether you'd like to start cooking, running, reading or sewing, there are many hobbies that can be enjoyed on a budget. From camping to kite flying, summer time will allow you (along with your friends, family and kids) to get involved in something you've never done before, without having to part with too much cash.

Eating a picnic on the beach with your children, hiking up the nearest hill with your partner and getting stuck into some creative writing alone are all examples of free activities you can do while the summer is here " so it is time to get stuck in and make the most of it!

Get creative with your kids

Don't have endless cash to spend on cinema trips, lunches out or trips to a theme park? Don't worry, your children will have just as much fun trying out your homemade free activities. Why not send them on a treasure hunt by providing clues around the garden? The only rule " they must stay outside!

If your kids fancy themselves as musicians, why not make some noise with your very own DIY instruments? After gathering up old cereal boxes, tins, paper plates and bottles (along with anything else you can find), search online for instructions on how to make your masterpieces. Once they're finished, you can plan the concert!

If you'd prefer to get out in the garden, gather some plastic bags, a hose and washing up liquid, and make your very own slip 'n slide. Trust us when we say that it'll provide hours of entertainment.

Check out the local entertainment

Summer often brings carnivals, festivals, fêtes and live entertainment, and the best part is, a lot of them are free to attend.

Watch local talent perform, browse food stalls and catch up with friends over a refreshing drink by exploring what's happening close by. By discovering all of the exciting events that your nearest town, village or city has to offer, you can make a note to visit the following summer, too.

By carefully managing your budget this season, you'll be able to have fun while making lots of incredible memories along the way.
