Cockatoo Ridge Launches Low Calorie Sparkling Wine

Cockatoo Ridge Wines has launched a new sparkling wine onto the Australian market- one specifically designed for the health conscious and those who want to reduce alcoholic content.

It is the new Cockatoo Ridge Low Calorie Brut Cuvee- a premium sparkling wine but containing only two thirds of the calories of standard Australian sparkling wine.

And backing the new Cockatoo Ridge Low Calorie Brut Cuvee is former Miss Australia, Ms Erin McNaught, who is now an international star of the hit 'soapie' Neighbours.

Announcing the new release, Cockatoo Ridge Managing Director, Mr Peter Perrin, said "For some time the company has been convinced there was a strong demand for a low calorie sparkling wine, both in Australia and internationally."

"Over recent years the Australian wine industry has struggled with low alcohol-low calorie wines so we knew we faced a challenge and only the best effort would do. As a result, we began planning in 2007 to be ready for the 2008 vintage- and the result is a stunning new wine for Australia."

The Cockatoo Ridge Low Calorie Brut Cuvee displays a good fine bead and tropical lime and fresh fruit zing on both the bouquet and the palate.

The balance between acidity and residual sugar levels is spot on, with the final wine containing around 15 grams per litre of natural sugar.

As Peter Perrin remarks "This is a premium sparkling wine and one which we strongly believe will be a hit within Australia and a major player in the global markets. It is innovative, stylish and different and ticks all the boxes when it comes to meeting community concerns regarding alcohol consumption and weight reduction."

"To me, this is a great example of what we can do as a wine making nation as it will stand up anywhere as a testament to Australian innovation."

An Australia-wide promotional campaign is backing the release of the new Cockatoo Ridge Low Calorie Brut Cuvee.

As Peter Perrin adds "Erin McNaught is totally rapt with the campaign and cannot wait to get involved. We have adopted two key themes- Light as a Feather (which features on each bottle) and 'Save a Cal or Two' with an underlying theme of 'McNaughty But Light'.

"These will feature on billboards, large signage in key locations, tram sides and even on one of the nation's top racing yachts (The Goat) on Sydney Harbour. Major retail chains have already indicated their interest and want to back Cockatoo Ridge Wines from the outset with this exciting project."
