ARTPLAY SCHOOL HOLIDAY HIGHLIGHTS

Camouflage Creatures

Sunday, 1 July

$16 per child, bookings essential

Ages: 5 to 8 years

Create your own crazy camouflaged creatures using paper and tape. Can it fly or run really fast? Does it waddle slowly or jump really high? Now imagine where your creature might live. Down by the creek, or in outer space? High in the trees, or in the deepest, darkest part of the ocean? Learn how to choose and mix paint to create a camouflage skin for your creature to blend into their environment. Once they're camouflaged – you'll have to look really close to see that they're still there!

Party Animals

Wednesday 4 July, Thursday 5 July

$16 per child, bookings essential

Ages: 5 to 8 years, 9 to 12 years

Are you a galactic, glitter elephant? A royal, rapping racoon? Find your party persona in this fun and interactive drama workshop. You will play drama games, devise costumes and explore types of movement and expression. We'll end the music and laughter in a Party Animal Disco.

My Animal Self

Friday, 6 July

$20 per child, bookings essential

Ages: 9 to 12 years

If you were an animal, what would you be? Are you as chill as a sloth, as cunning as a fox, as smart as a dolphin, or as flamboyant as a flamingo? Brother and sister team Aoife and Aaron will guide you through everything you need to know to make a fantastical animal that represents you, using embroidery, applique and beading. Workshop by Bats of Leisure and ArtPlay Young Idea Makers.

Wild Beasties

Saturday 7 July, Sunday 8 July

$16 per child, bookings essential
Ages: 5 to 8 years, 7 to 12 years

Turn yourself into a wild beastie and celebrate the passing of the winter solstice. Hack your own costume by cutting, gluing and knotting old clothing and upcycled materials to get closer to your animal self! Learn about pagan rituals from Europe that celebrate the cycles of life and connections to nature. Then gather together in a Wild Beastie ritual parade around ArtPlay to show off your costume and scare away winter.

Jatra Jatra: Tram Art

Wednesday, 11 July
$16 per child, bookings essential
Ages: 6 to 12 years

What makes you happy? What's important to you? And how would you represent your journey in life so far? Learn about the symbols used in Bushra's Tramjatra design and how she put it all together to then create images and motifs that express your own story. We will be making one large artwork on the ArtPlay wall and each person will have a section to complete.

Block-print Bags

Thursday, 12 July
$16 per child, bookings essential
Ages: 5 to 8 years, 7 to 12 years

Let textile artists Annick Akanni inspire a love of travel. In this workshop, you will think about a special place you've visited, whether nearby or far away, and represent that place in an abstract design. Explore different techniques such as combining colours and investigating how shapes fit together to make patterns. Then learn how to transfer your design onto a print. At the end of the workshop, you'll have your own unique bag to take away!

All that we are

Saturday 14 July, Sunday 15 July

$16 per child, bookings essential
Ages: 6 to 12 years

Get creative with the whole family! Big kids and little kids alike will create their own sculpture using fallen branches and plaster bandages. Each human figure will be unique, embodying its own individual character.  But the completed figures cannot stand alone. They will be joined at the hands, showing strength in numbers and creating a temporary installation in ArtPlay's main space.
