Wonderland

Don't be late for a very important date with Wonderland, the world premiere exhibition of Alice's adventures on screen must close on 7 October. Wonderland explores how filmmaking, special effects and technology have reimagined one of the world's most beloved characters. Make sure you don't miss the immersive projections in the Tea Party room or get the chance to paint the roses red with your personalised card soldier. Make a Movie (3 days)
Mon 24 – Wed 26 Sep, 10am – 4pm

Kids are invited to make their own short film from scratch in this hands-on workshop. Participants will work in teams to pitch ideas, write a script, design costumes, act, direct and shoot on location at ACMI and around Fed Square. After mastering the post-production process, adding sound effects and the perfect soundtrack, kids and their guests will walk the red carpet at their very own premiere. Junior Make a Movie (1 day)

Take the first steps on your filmmaking journey in this one-day workshop. Working in teams, kids will storyboard their ideas, choose costumes, act, direct and shoot on location at ACMI using a tablet. Learn the basics of coding and create your own video game in this introduction to design, programming and game development. Use the popular Scratch software to add objects, characters, animations and rules to games while learning a visual approach to game design and development. No prior playing experience necessary, though this challenge is ideal for kids who have already completed The Minecraft Challenge workshop. Become the star of your own YouTube video in this workshop that teaches kids the creative and technical skills to make their own online content. Kids will discuss tactics, brainstorm ideas, write a script and film their own video against the green screen. After learning how to edit their videos and adding in special effects, kids will have everything they need to go viral! Ages 9-14.

Animate your own Wonderland story in this one-day workshop that teaches kids the tips and tricks of stop-motion animation. Sculpt your favourite characters including Alice, the Mad Hatter and the Cheshire Cat from clay, design your own sets and watch your characters come to life with lighting, sound and stop-motion animation techniques. Prehistoric VR

Travel back 200 million years to swim with some of the strange and wonderful creatures from the depths of the prehistoric ocean.
The first 360-degree VR puppetry experience of its kind, the viewer encounters prehistoric marine creatures that have a connection to Australia's prehistoric past, including bioluminescent jellyfish, Plesiosaurus and Kronosaurus to name a few. An immersive experience that puts kids at the centre of the action, surrounded by creatures that swim about and explore. Prehistoric VR is a stunning deep sea adventure that everyone will enjoy.
Commissioned by ACMI, and developed by Erth Visual & Physical Inc. with assistance from Create NSW in partnership with AFTRS (the Australia Film Television & Radio School), Handmaid Media and Start VR. Ages 7+.

Alice in Wonderland G
Until Sat 6 Oct
Follow Alice down the rabbit hole and into this delirious and musical rendition of Lewis Carroll's Wonderland. Featuring genre defining set pieces, including the Mad Hatter's Tea Party and the Cheshire Cat, this classic Disney adaptation is a joy for the whole family. In celebration of our Wonderland exhibition this film will be showing the first Saturday of every month for the duration of the exhibition (excluding August). All ages.
