Wil Linder Revisits The Past On New Single, 'A Good Hard Look'
Sometimes the past holds the key to the future by keeping treasures hidden in plain sight. In 2023, Wil Linder wrote, 'A Good Hard Look' and almost three years down the track - he's dusted it off and given it the time and respect it deserves.
"This song gave me a taste of the style of music I wanted to write and perform", says Wil. "I can proudly say that this is one of the best songs I've written, and for that, it deserved to be done properly."
Recorded with the incomparable Jackson Barclay (Vera Blue/Winterbourne/The McClymonts) on the NSW Central Coast, Wil made sure to give it his full attention. He and Barclay left no stone unturned, shaping and building up the original stripped down acoustic guitar version into this blistering new version perfect for summer.
Musically, it swoons and shimmers while evoking nostalgic memories of the days of youthful innocence. As Wil explains, "A Good Hard Look" is a classic story of two young lovers, separated by nothing more than the journey of self-discovery.
"I hear so often the saying that when people cross that 20-year mark in their life, they all seem to go in different directions. Some choose to knuckle down and work as hard as they possibly can, others choose to spend their 20's travelling and partying. These different pathways are what pulls relationships apart."
"I once wrote in a notepad: "I hope our pages are from the same book" – that is the phrase that inspired this song".
