Winner of the Silver Bear at the 1975 Berlin Film Festival, Stuart Cooper's original and hypnotic meditation on the machine of war is an astounding rediscovery for cineastes. Shot by legendary cinematographer John Alcott, Overlord seamlessly combines a fictionalised narrative of a British soldier's journey from basic training to the beaches of Normandy with startling documentary footage taken from the wider conflict. Stanley Kubrick said the only problem with Overlord was that it was 'an hour-and-half too short'. After seeing this remarkable filmmaking achievement, one would have to agree.

Hosted by Farah Farouque, senior writer, The Age.

The classic Brothers Grimm tale of a pint-sized boy called Tom is a remarkable blend of live action, animation and puppetry brought to glorious Technicolor life under the guidance of George Pal (The Time Machine). Russ Tamblyn (Riff in West Side Story and Dr Jacoby in Twin Peaks) is the diminutive Tom who takes a trip to the local village and is nabbed by two villains (one being Peter Sellers) who intend to make the most out of our innocent little hero.
