SNAKES ALIVE! From February 10 to 24 all eyes will turn to Chinatown in Brisbane's Fortitude Valley as a cacophony of colour, culture and ceremony welcomes the Year of the Snake - Chinese New Year 2013!

Celebrated all over the world, Chinese New Year is a time to welcome longevity, wealth and prosperity and to eliminate any negative chi from the past. It begins with the New Moon on the first day of the New Year and ends on the full moon 15th days later. Chinese New Year in 2013 falls on Sunday, February 10.

One of Brisbane's signature events, the culturally rich, the 2013 Valley Chinese New Year Festival Year of the Snake Official Program presented by Brisbane City Council will celebrate with 14 days of dance, music, food, exhibitions, religious ceremonies, firecrackers and Tai Chi displays, market stalls and more. More than 20 restaurants are taking part in the festival, and of course the much loved traditional Chinese New Year Lion dance will be heard and seen all over Chinatown!
